Worship: When God Says No / Wellness: A Merry Heart

Worship: For Heaven’s Sake  Pastor Flemons says that God really never says No. He just has something better for  you. (Read more below.)

Wellness: For Health’s Sake  Pastor Shelem Flemons, a doctor of biblical wellness, says the body follows the mind. A lot of people are dead simply because they believed they would die. And a lot of people are alive, because they simply decided that they would not die. (Read Psalm 118:17.) (Read more below.)

Words of Encouragement

Judges 18:10  When ye go, ye shall come unto a people secure, and to a large land: for God hath given it into your hands; a place where there is no want of any thing that is in the earth.

Ecclesiastes 3:14  I know that, whatsoever God doeth, it shall be for ever: nothing can be put to it, nor any thing taken from it: and God doeth it, that men should fear before him. (Read also Ed 50.)

For Heaven’s Sake…

“Our plans are not always God’s plans. He may see that it is best for us and for His cause to refuse our very best intentions, as He did in the case of David. But of one thing we may be assured, He will bless and use in the advancement of His cause those who sincerely devote themselves and all they have to His glory. If He sees it best not to grant their desires He will counterbalance the refusal by giving them tokens of His love and entrusting to them another service. {MH 473.2}

“In His loving care and interest for us, often He who understands us better than we understand ourselves refuses to permit us selfishly to seek the gratification of our own ambition. He does not permit us to pass by the homely but sacred duties that lie next us. Often these duties afford the very training essential to prepare us for a higher work. Often our plans fail that God’s plans for us may succeed.” {MH 473.3}

[For further details, read “When disappointments come, how will He counterbalance the trial?” in The Path to the Throne of God, by Sarah Elizabeth Peck, PTG 55 (“Meeting Encouragement Under Trial” p82, new edition) (PTG online 40, 41).]

For Health’s Sake…

The Bible has long said, and science is now learning, that “A merry heart doeth good like a medicine: But a broken spirit drieth the bones” (Proverbs 17:22). Stress (long-term) kills. That’s because stress puts the immune system in a holding pattern, so that it cannot fight disease. Rather, it is itself weakened by stress and disease then dominates the body to death.

A merry heart, on the other hand, causes the body to release a chemical that is healing. We now know that endorphins are found primarily in the brain. This happy chemical builds the immune system and is antiinflammatory in nature. As Pastor Flemons has said, inflammation is associated in nearly all diseases.

Take the Bible literally when it says, “Rejoice in the Lord alway(s)!” (Philippians 4:4) and “In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you” (1 Thessalonians 5:18). It is God’s desire that we all “prosper and be in health” (1 John 1:2). God’s health plan is a lifestyle designed for abundant living. We at Times of Refreshing describe it this way: the REFRESHING Way lifestyle.
