Words of Encouragement
Jeremiah 32:26, 27 Then came the word of the LORD unto Jeremiah, saying Behold, I am the LORD, the God of all flesh: is there any thing too hard for me?
Jeremiah 33:2, 3 Thus saith the LORD the maker thereof, the LORD that formed it, to establish it; the LORD is his name; Call unto me, and I will answer thee, and shew thee great and mighty things, which thou knowest not.
For Heaven’s Sake…
The former and latter rain in a personal sense, says Pastor Flemons, is manifested by how Christians treat one another. All those who obey God and keep His Commandments are unified, he says. It goes beyond organizational establishments. “There is one church,” he says, “and the headquarters is in Heaven.” The Holy Spirit will be poured out on those who allow Him to fill them, as they gain victory over every besetting sin.
The biblical announcement of the latter rain is in Revelation 18:1 and is represented by the angel coming down from Heaven having great power and lightening “the earth with his glory.” “This angel will ‘unite his voice with the third angel (of Rev. 14:9, 10) and give power and force to his message’ as it swells into the loud cry EW 277, 271, when again the church around the circle of the earth will speak with ‘tongues of fire.” “‘The outpouring of the Holy Spirit on the day of Pentecost was the former rain, but the latter rain which ripens the harvest will be more abundant.’ COL 121; Joel 2:23; Hosea 6:3; GC 611, 612.”
[Please listen to the recording and sing with Pastor Flemons the beautiful Hymn 260, “Hover O’er Me Holy Spirit.” The full reading of “The Former Rain and the Latter Rain” may be found in The Path to the Throne of God: The Sanctuary, by Sarah Elizabeth Peck, PTG 99 original; PTG 139, 140 new edition; PTG 71, 73 online.]
For Health’s Sake…
Many invalids remain invalids simply because they have chosen to rely on faulty experiences. Because their experience has not been adequate and real and balanced, their viewpoint is prejudiced and controlled by established opinions and habits. Habits may easily stem from a course of thoughtless and ignorant indulgences.
“Experience which is opposed to natural law,—which is in conflict with the unchangeable principles of nature,—is not to be relied upon. Superstition arising from a diseased imagination is often arrayed in opposition to reason and to scientific principles. . . But there are more errors received and held through false ideas of experience than from any other cause. There are many invalids today who will ever remain such because they cannot be convinced that their experience is not to be relied upon.”
Experience must never trump the elevating and sanctifying truths of the Bible. Just because smoking has had a calming effect on the smoker, he or she tends to keep on smoking, feeling good about smoking over the years, until it is too late to successfully overcome the insidious long-term damage, when finally it is manifested in full. Pastor Flemons, a doctor of biblical wellness, offered comments as he read from Ellen G. White’s Christian Temperance and Bible Hygiene for the morning’s topic.
