Worship: The Church in Laodicea / Wellness: If Skin Could Speak

Worship: For Heaven’s Sake  When you overcome the mindset of the church in Laodicea, says Pastor Flemons, you become a member of the church in Philadelphia. Those who remain in Laodicea will be spewed out of God’s mouth. In other words, they will be eternally lost.

To the church in Laodicea, Jesus says, “I know thy works, that thou art neither cold nor hot: I would thou wert cold or hot. So then because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spue thee out of my mouth. Because thou sayest, I am rich, and increased with goods, and have need of nothing; and knowest not that thou art wretched, and miserable, and poor, and blind, and naked: I counsel thee to buy of me gold tried in the fire, that thou mayest be rich; and white raiment, that thou mayest be clothed, and that the shame of thy nakedness do not appear; and anoint thine eyes with eyesalve, that thou mayest see. As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten: be zealous therefore, and repent” (Revelation 3:15-19).

Anyone who believes that God approves of them in their sin is presumptuous, says Pastor Flemons. It is pharisaical. It is trusting in one’s own righteousness than trusting in the righteousness of Jesus Christ. That means you can be a Pharisee, whether you are conservative or liberal.

Faith must work by love. Faith must produce action. The motivation, however, must be love. It is only that kind of faith that is approved by God.

“The gold tried in the fire is faith that works by love. Only this can bring us into harmony with God. We may be active, we may do much work; but without love, such love as dwelt in the heart of Christ, we can never be numbered with the family of heaven.” {COL 158.3}

[For additional details, please read Revelation 3:14-22WLF 12; Luke 18:9-14; and listen to the recording to hear the commentary of Pastor Flemons, who sang Hymn 495, “Near to the Heart of God.”]

Worship: For Health’s Sake  Shelem Flemons, a doctor of biblical wellness, says that your skin, which is the body’s largest organ of elimination, is a reflection of what is happening in your body. All other organs can be overworked in their respective roles of elimination, he says. But not so with the skin. It cannot be overworked in its role of elimination.

Nevertheless, if it could talk, the skin would complain about skin problems caused by an unhealthy diet, including the buildup of bacteria in the area of the hair follicle, that we recognize as acne. The skin would tell your mouth to stop eating a high fat diet with all the animal products. Rather it would tell the mouth, “Eat a total plant-based diet. Eat two meals a day. And don’t eat too much!” Then the skin, he says, would respond with a healthy glow.
