Worship: The Sanctuary and God’s Law / Wellness: Exercise and Digestion

Worship: For Heaven’s Sake
Prayerful and earnest study of the sanctuary led the remnant to God’s eternal law housed in the most holy place. They were led to proclaim not the first day of the week as “the Sabbath of the Lord,” but the seventh-day Sabbath, according to the fourth commandment. “They learned that instead of the Sabbath being a type that met its antitype at the cross and was then done away, it was a foretaste of their eternal rest, Heb. 4:1-5, and that in the future life it would continue to be observed forever and ever. Isa. 66:23. . . . It was this correct understanding of the sanctuary and the Sabbath of God’s law that gave birth to the Remnant church. They are the two pillars of the Judgment message.” (PTG 160, 161 online)

Jesus had said that the Sabbath was made for man and not man for the Sabbath. Therefore, as long as mankind exists, so will the Sabbath. “What a blessing both of these institutions are,” says Pastor Flemons. “We get a chance to rest on the Sabbath and spend time with God in His sanctuary.” Indeed, the Sabbath is the jewel of eternal rest.

Wellness: For Health’s Sake  Shelem Flemons, a doctor of biblical wellness, says, “If you don’t exercise, you’re going to have poor digestion.” Your digestive system, particularly the colon, is held up by ligaments. These ligaments get a massage when you walk. This helps to move the food farther along the food tube and increases healthy blood flow.

Nevertheless, he added a warning. “Don’t exercise heavily too close to a meal: either before or after the meal.” Pastor Flemons advises leaving a space of at least 30 minutes between eating and vigorous exercise. He says, “When you exercise too close to the meal, . . . you’re either not going get enough blood for digestion or you’re going to start having some cramps.” He explained the process in detail and added that this same reason is why swimming too soon after a meal is potentially deadly. In fact, says Pastor Flemons, “Light activity is better than lying down and sitting down after a meal, because you want just enough exercise to keep the blood flowing in and out of those extremities . . . and digestive organs, without causing any problems.”
