WAYSIDE HEARERS BY PASTOR SHELEM FLEMONS

There are four possible reactions to the word of God. The first reaction is that of a wayside hearer.

Matt. 13:1-4   The same day went Jesus out of the house, and sat by the sea side.  2And great multitudes were gathered together unto him, so that he went into a ship, and sat; and the whole multitude stood on the shore.  3 And he spake many things unto them in parables, saying, Behold, a sower went forth to sow; 4 And when he sowed, some seeds fell by the way side, and the fowls came and devoured them up:

Jesus explained the wayside hearer as one who does not understand the word and the enemy is therefore able to steal away that which was sown in the heart.

Matt. 13:18,19 Hear ye therefore the parable of the sower. 19 When any one heareth the word of the kingdom, and understandeth it not, then cometh the wicked one, and catcheth away that which was sown in his heart. This is he which received seed by the way side.

Not understanding the word of God is not the real issue here. None of us would understand until God teaches us. The bible says in Proverbs 9:10, “The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the holy is understanding.” Therefore, understanding is knowledge that holy people receive. Jesus therefore identified a wayside hearer as one who is not holy or one who does not make holiness a priority. These can be people who still have a profession of godliness.

Babylon is a name attributed to false religions, many of whom claim to be christian. Do you remember that it was the birds of the air that came and stole the precious seed of God’s word. Babylon is said to be holding place or cage of such birds.

Rev. 18:1   And after these things I saw another angel come down from heaven, having great power; and the earth was lightened with his glory.  2 And he cried mightily with a strong voice, saying, Babylon the great is fallen, is fallen, and is become the habitation of devils, and the hold of every foul spirit, and a cage of every unclean and hateful bird.  3 For all nations have drunk of the wine of the wrath of her fornication, and the kings of the earth have committed fornication with her, and the merchants of the earth are waxed rich through the abundance of her delicacies.

In conclusion, a wayside hearer rejects the word of God. He or she may reject the word of God because of the traditions of the church.

the first “e” in refreshing is “eat healthy” by pastor shelem flemons, a doctor of biblical wellness.

The first “E” in REFRESHING is “Eat Healthy.” Genesis 1:29 gives us the diet that God intended for us to follow.

Gen. 1:29 And God said, Behold, I have given you every herb bearing seed, which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in the which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for meat.

A whole food, plant-based diet is the diet that our Savior provided for the nutrition of our body. By whole food we mean that we should avoid refined, processed food. By plant-based, we mean that we should not eat pork, beef, chicken, fish or other animals from the sea. Also, it is not best to consume milk from animals, eggs from animals and cheese from animals.

All of the major diseases we have today are directly attributable to our departure from God’s original diet.

Ch. 37 – Will the Answers Come? – Scripture Text: 1 Pet. 3:12

“Every earnest petition for grace and strength will be answered…Ask God to do for you those things that you cannot do for yourselves. Tell Jesus everything. Lay open before Him the secrets of your heart; for His eye searches the inmost recesses of the soul, and He reads your thoughts as an open book. When you have asked for the things that are necessary for your soul’s good, believe that you received them, and you shall have them. Accept His gifts with your whole heart; for Jesus has died that you might have the precious things of heaven as your own, and at last find a home with the heavenly angels in the kingdom of God.” My Life Today, p 16

Conditions for successful prayer – Read Steps to Christ, Ch. 11, p 93-104.

“He who blessed the nobleman at Capernaum is just a desirous of blessing us. But like the afflicted father, we are often led to seek Jesus by the desire for some earthly good; and upon the granting of our request we rest our confidence in His love. The Saviour longs to give us a greater blessing than we ask; and He delays the answer to our request that He may show us the evil of our own hearts, and our deep need of His grace. He desires us to renounce the selfishness that leads us to seek Him. Confessing our helplessness and bitter need, we are to trust ourselves wholly to His love. The nobleman wanted to see the fulfillment of his prayer before he should believe; but he had to accept the work of Jesus that his request was heard and the blessing granted. This lesson we also have to learn. Not because we see or feel that God hears us are we to believe. We are to trust in His promises. When we come to Him in faith, every petition enters the heart of God. When we have asked for His blessing, we should believe that we receive it, and thank Him that we received it. Then we are to go about our duties, assured that the blessing will be realized when we need it most. When we have learned to do this, we shall know that our prayers are answered. God will do for us ‘exceeding abundantly’, ‘according to the riches of His glory,’ and ‘the working of His mighty power.'” Ephesians 3:20, 16; 1:19 The Desire of Ages, p 200

“When we seek to gain heaven through the merits of Christ, the soul makes progress. Looking unto Jesus, the Author and Finisher of our faith, we may go on from strength to strength, from victory to victory; for through Christ the grace of God has worked out our complete salvation.” Selected Messages, Book 1, p 364
