Worship: For Heaven’s Sake Samuel was still a child when God chose to speak to him prophetically. “God could not communicate with the high priest and his sons; their sins, like a thick cloud, had shut out the presence of His Holy Spirit.” God’s first message to Samuel was a terrible and appalling reproof to the unfaithful High Priest Eli and his house. The message was tremblingly received but faithfully delivered by the young Samuel when questioned by Eli. Although the message from God went unheeded and Israel at last lost the ark of the Lord to the Philistines, the enemies of the Lord, Samuel’s faithfulness as a mouthpiece for God was established for all time.
Thousands of centuries later, Samuel is still noted as “a great and good prophet and an eminent judge,” who had “from his youth up” walked before Israel in the integrity of his heart.” His service preceded Saul, who reigned over Israel as its first king. Yet, “Samuel had wielded a more powerful influence than he, because his record was one of faithfulness, obedience, and devotion. We read that he judged Israel all the days of his life.” {PP 663.1} And that is why Samuel is one of the few to whom so many owe so much.
[For further details, read Ellen G. White’s Patriarchs and Prophets, Chapter 57, “The Ark Taken by the Philistines” PP 581, based on 1 Samuel 3-7. (Please note that Samuel’s life spans to PP 664.3 of chapter 65, “The Magnanimity of David” and to 1 Samuel 28:3.) Also, please listen to the recording to hear the commentary of Pastor Flemons.]

Worship: For Health’s Sake Shelem Flemons, a doctor of biblical wellness, and Sis. Maria discussed TORSOE’s (Times of Refreshing Simplicity of Eden) 10-day fast for spiritual cleansing and healing, which begins August 1. Sis. Maria shared two more recipes to use during the fast by anyone, but especially for those with arthritis.
The TORSOE Antiinflammatory Green Juice
- 2 cups, spinach
- 1/2 bunch, flat leaf parsley
- 2 large Granny Smith apples
- 1/2 lemon (with the peel)
The TORSOE Pineapple-Turmeric Smoothie
- 2 c, unsweetened almond milk
- 2 c, pineapple chunks
- 1 T, ginger root (peeled and grated)
- 1/2 c., vegan vanilla protein powder (gluten-free and NonGMO)
- 1 t., turmeric powder
Directions: Blend and enjoy!
They emphasized that you don’t have to have arthritis to enjoy these drinks. This is a wonderful opportunity for everyone to do some physical and spiritual fall cleaning, they say, and fall in line with God’s will.
Pastor Flemons says, “If we can overcome on the point of appetite, we will have moral power to overcome every other temptation of Satan.” He added that the kind of faith that moves mountains of difficulty comes only by prayer and fasting.
“The controlling power of appetite will prove the ruin of thousands, when, if they had conquered on this point, they would have had moral power to gain the victory over every other temptation of Satan. But those who are slaves to appetite will fail in perfecting Christian character. The continual transgression of man for six thousand years has brought sickness, pain, and death as its fruits. And as we near the close of time, Satan’s temptation to indulge appetite will be more powerful and more difficult to overcome.”—Testimonies for the Church 3:491, 492, 1875 {CD 59.3}

Sharing and Caring Time Sis. Maria encouraged listeners with a passage of reading from the book Power of Prayer, a collection of statements on prayer by Ellen G. White, particularly from the section titled “The Privilege of Prayer,” Chapter 1, p. 9. [Another source of the same quote is used below.]
“Every Sincere Prayer Is Heard—As yet the disciples were unacquainted with the Saviour’s unlimited resources and power. He said to them, ‘Hitherto have ye asked nothing in My name.’ John 16:24. He explained that the secret of their success would be in asking for strength and grace in His name. He would be present before the Father to make request for them. The prayer of the humble suppliant He presents as His own desire in that soul’s behalf. Every sincere prayer is heard in heaven. It may not be fluently expressed; but if the heart is in it, it will ascend to the sanctuary where Jesus ministers, and He will present it to the Father without one awkward, stammering word, beautiful and fragrant with the incense of His own perfection. {Pr 13.3}
“The path of sincerity and integrity is not a path free from obstruction, but in every difficulty we are to see a call to prayer. There is no one living who has any power that he has not received from God, and the source whence it comes is open to the weakest human being. ‘Whatsoever ye shall ask in My name,’ said Jesus, ‘that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If ye shall ask anything in My name, I will do it.’ {Pr 13.4}
“’In My name,’ Christ bade His disciples pray. In Christ’s name His followers are to stand before God. Through the value of the sacrifice made for them, they are of value in the Lord’s sight. Because of the imputed righteousness of Christ they are accounted precious. For Christ’s sake the Lord pardons those that fear Him. He does not see in them the vileness of the sinner. He recognizes in them the likeness of His Son, in whom they believe.”—(The Desire of Ages, 667.) {Pr 14.1}
Pastor Flemons will be speaking today at the Walnut Church of SDA, 8501 Hwy 25, Marshall, NC 28753.
Special Prayer Please include in your prayers today Listener 3637 (Bro. Peyton), who asked us to pray that (in his own words on FB) “I have the willpower to eat the way I know I am supposed to eat when I am at a church potluck and when I am invited to lunch by a church member after church service on the Sabbath.”
Please pray for any of our listeners who struggle with suicidal tendencies.
Please pray for TORSOE’s mission and plans and for our liquid fast from August 1 to August 10.
