Worship: First Duty to God and Man / Wellness: One Strong Temptation

Worship: For Heaven’s Sake  “Our first duty toward God and our fellow-beings is that of self-development. Every faculty with which the Creator has endowed us should be cultivated to the highest degree of perfection, that we may be able to do the greatest amount of good of which we are capable. Hence that time is spent to good account which is used in the establishment and preservation of physical and mental health. We cannot afford to dwarf or cripple any function of body or mind. As surely as we do this, we must suffer the consequences.” {CTBH 41.2}

Sadly, people who do this and who lack self-esteem tend to want to keep others down too, even to the point of abuse. But God wants, even requires, each of us to develop every faculty “to the highest degree of perfection.”

By all means, says Pastor Flemons, “Don’t be kept in bondage. . . . Don’t stay in an abusive situation. . . . Don’t gamble your life away. . . . Don’t allow yourself to be dwarfed by any means or circumstances.” God wants to deliver us all from anything that will dwarf us for His use.

Therefore, “Every man has the opportunity, to a great extent, of making himself whatever he chooses to be. The blessings of this life, and also of the immortal state, are within his reach. He may build up a character of solid worth, gaining new strength at every step. He may advance daily in knowledge and wisdom, conscious of new delights as he progresses, adding virtue to virtue, grace to grace. His faculties will improve by use; the more wisdom he gains, the greater will be his capacity for acquiring. His intelligence, knowledge, and virtue will thus develop into greater strength and more perfect symmetry.” {CTBH 41.3}

We only have one chance at life. Let us make the very best of it and lay hold onto eternity.

[For additional details, please read CTBH 41. And listen to the recording to hear the commentary of Pastor Flemons, who sang Hymn 520, “He Hideth My Soul.”]

Worship: For Health’s Sake  Shelem Flemons, a doctor of biblical wellness, read from Christian Temperance and Bible Hygiene regarding the indulgence of appetite. In part, it read like this:

“One of the strongest temptations that man has to meet is upon the point of appetite. . . . Adam and Eve were permitted to eat of all the trees in their Eden home, save one. The Lord said to the holy pair, ‘In the day that ye eat of the tree of knowledge of good and evil, ye shall surely die.’ [See Genesis 3.] Eve was beguiled by the serpent, and made to believe that God would not do as he had said. She ate, and thinking she felt the sensation of a new and more exalted life, she bore the fruit to her husband. The serpent had said that she should not die, and she felt no ill effects from eating the fruit,—nothing which could be interpreted to mean death, but, instead, a pleasurable sensation, which she imagined was as the angels felt. Her experience stood arrayed against the positive command of Jehovah, yet Adam permitted himself to be seduced by it. {CTBH 42.2}

“Since the first surrender to appetite, mankind have been growing more and more self-indulgent, until health has been sacrificed on the altar of appetite. The inhabitants of the antediluvian world were intemperate in eating and drinking. They would have flesh-meats, although God had at that time given man no permission to eat animal food. They ate and drank till the indulgence of their depraved appetite knew no bounds, and they became so corrupt that God could bear with them no longer. Their cup of iniquity was full, and he cleansed the earth of its moral pollution by a flood.” {CTBH 43.1}

We must overcome appetite, or it will overcome us. To prevent an early death, eat according to the will of God and avoid the temptation to indulge. When the temptation is the strongest, remember, that is because God is about to do the greatest work in your life, says Pastor Flemons. Don’t succumb to the temptation that you don’t miss your blessing.

Words of Encouragement

Genesis 5:21, 22  Enoch lived sixty and five years, and begat Methuselah: and Enoch walked with God after he begat Methuselah three hundred years.  (Also read Conflict and Courage, CC 28.)

2 Thessalonians 2:13  But we are bound to give thanks alway to God for you, brethren beloved of the Lord, because God hath from the beginning chosen you to salvation through sanctification of the Spirit and belief of the truth.  (Also read With God at Dawn, WGD 24.)

Worship: Length of the Judgment / Wellness: NotMilk.com

Worship: For Heaven’s Sake  The Day of Atonement, the Investigative Judgment, began October 22, 1844. Since that time, beginning with the righteous dead and continuing with the righteous living, every name in the Book of Life has continued to be presented to God with the Book of Remembrance, listing every good deed, and the Book of Death, listing every sin committed. Actions and motives are being weighed for every sin for every professed believer.

After doing the math, Pastor Flemons said that we have been in the Judgment for 175 years. That is equivalent to 63,875 days, or 1,533,000 hours. If 30 minutes were devoted to deal with each name, he said that would mean that only 3,066,000 names have been reviewed in the 175 years since October 22, 1844. Keep in mind, he says, that after the second coming of Christ, a full 1,000 years will be devoted to the sentencing of the wicked.

Pastor Flemons warned, “Don’t grieve the Holy Spirit of God. Stop rebelling against God… Keep your heart soft. . . . You can be saved. It matters not what you have done. What matters is whether you have repented and are converted. You can surrender now and Christ will be the Lord of your life.” The question is this: “Is your life surrendered with God?”

Sharing Time  Pastor Flemons responded to a FB question about the consumption of soy products by men. Sis. Angela asked about BPA / sex hormones being used in packing commercial foods, i.e., foods in cans. Sis. Rosemary thanked Pastor Flemons for the birthday song. Another listener asked to know how to know the foods purchased are indeed organic. Pastor Flemons provided the initial digit for organic foods (9); 3 and 4 are similarly conventionally grown produce.

Special Prayer  Please include in your prayers today listener Sis. Michelle, who asked we pray for the Corey family that they be comforted as they grieve the loss of their mother this past Sabbath. She also asked that we pray for Quincy, who has rejected the Lord and lost his faith. Pray his faith in the Lord is restored and that he (and others who have done the same) will be saved in time. Sis. Odessa asked that we pray for her friend Bonnie and be wise in our choices, especially regarding our food purchases.
