Worship: A Call to Medical Evangelism, Pt 3 / Wellness: 3 Things You Never Knew About Medication

Worship: For Heaven’s Sake
The call that Jesus gave to his disciples in Luke 9:1, extends to all believers down to the end of time. It says, “Then he called his twelve disciples together, and gave them power and authority over all devils, and to cure diseases.” This is God’s chosen method of saving souls. According to the passages Pastor Flemons read, every believer is to be a medical missionary.

“It is important that instructions should be given by ministers in regard to living temperately. They should show the relation which eating, working, resting, and dressing sustain to health. {CME 10.3}

“All who believe the truth for these last days have something to do in this matter. It concerns them, and God requires them to arouse and interest themselves in this reform. He will not be pleased with their course if they regard this question with indifference.—Testimonies for the Church 1:618. {CME 10.4}

“We have come to a time when every member of the church should take hold of medical missionary work. The world is a lazar house filled with victims of both physical and spiritual disease. Everywhere people are perishing for lack of a knowledge of the truths that have been committed to us. The members of the church are in need of an awakening, that they may realize their responsibility to impart these truths.—Testimonies for the Church 7:62. {CME 10.5}

[For further details, read Ellen G. White’s A Call to Medical Evangelism and Health Education, CME 9.1 – 11.3. Also, listen to the recording to hear the commentary of Pastor Flemons.]

Wellness: For Health’s Sake Shelem Flemons, a doctor of biblical wellness, says that three things you never knew about drugs are 1. that drugs never cure disease; 2. that drugs only change the form of a disease; and 3. that drugs only change the location of the disease. He then shared this statement:

“Drugs never cure disease. They only change the form and location. Nature alone is the effectual restorer, and how much better could she perform her task if left to herself. But this privilege is seldom allowed her. If crippled nature bears up under the load, and finally accomplishes in a great measure her double task, and the patient lives, the credit is given to the physician. But if nature fails in her effort to expel the poison from the system, and the patient dies, it is called a wonderful dispensation of Providence. If the patient had taken a course to relieve overburdened nature in season, and understandingly used pure soft water, this dispensation of drug-mortality might have been wholly averted. The use of water can accomplish but little, if the patient does not feel the necessity of also strictly attending to his diet.” {2SM 451.1}

Sharing and Caring Time Sis. Maria shared several passages from the book The Power of Prayer, a collection of Ellen G. White writings on prayer, Chapter 15, page 36 and 37. She shared these passages:

“Those who seek God in secret telling the Lord their needs and pleading for help, will not plead in vain. “Thy Father which seeth in secret Himself shall reward thee openly.” As we make Christ our daily companion we shall feel that the powers of an unseen world are all around us; and by looking unto Jesus we shall become assimilated to His image. By beholding we become changed. The character is softened, refined, and ennobled for the heavenly kingdom. The sure result of our intercourse and fellowship with our Lord will be to increase piety, purity, and fervor. There will be a growing intelligence in prayer. We are receiving a divine education, and this is illustrated in a life of diligence and zeal. {Pr 183.2}

“The soul that turns to God for its help, its support, its power, by daily, earnest prayer, will have noble aspirations, clear perceptions of truth and duty, lofty purposes of action, and a continual hungering and thirsting after righteousness. By maintaining a connection with God, we shall be enabled to diffuse to others, through our association with them, the light, the peace, the serenity, that rule in our hearts. The strength acquired in prayer to God, united with persevering effort in training the mind in thoughtfulness and care-taking, prepares one for daily duties and keeps the spirit in peace under all circumstances.”—(Thoughts From the Mount of Blessing, 84, 85.) {Pr 183.3}

TORSOE announced a variety of online classes to learn biblical wellness for medical missionary work. Some of the classes will be free. Other classes will bear a reasonable cost. These classes will be cover spiritual, mental and physical health.

Worship: The Character and Aims of the Papacy, Pt 12 / Wellness: Benefits of Lung Immune Tea

Worship: For Heaven’s Sake “Think about all the different inventions that the devil gives to keep us from sticking with the Bible,” says Pastor Flemons. He adds, “The word of God must be our defense. . . . If you want to know how the Sunday law is going to be brought on in the last days, just see how it was brought on back in the Dark Ages.” Then he read GC88 573.2 – 576.1, which include these statements:

“As the papacy became firmly established, the work of Sunday exaltation was continued. For a time the people engaged in agricultural labor when not attending church, and the seventh day was still regarded as the Sabbath. But steadily a change was effected. Those in holy office were forbidden to pass judgment in any civil controversy on the Sunday. Soon after, all persons, of whatever rank, were commanded to refrain from common labor, on pain of a fine for freemen, and stripes in the case of servants. Later it was decreed, that rich men should be punished with the loss of half of their estates; and finally, that if still obstinate they should be made slaves. The lower classes were to suffer perpetual banishment.  {GC88 574.3}

” . . . The people questioned the right of their teachers to set aside the positive declaration of Jehovah, ‘The seventh day is the Sabbath of the Lord thy God,’ in order to honor the day of the sun. To supply the lack of Bible testimony, other expedients were necessary. A zealous advocate of Sunday, who about the close of the twelfth century visited the churches of England, was resisted by faithful witnesses for the truth; and so fruitless were his efforts that he departed from the country for a season, and cast about him for some means to enforce his teachings. When he returned, the lack was supplied, and in his after-labors he met with greater success. He brought with him a roll purporting to be from God himself, which contained the needed command for Sunday observance, with awful threats to terrify the disobedient. This precious document—as base a counterfeit as the institution it supported—was said to have fallen from Heaven, and to have been found in Jerusalem, upon the altar of St. Simeon, in Golgotha. But in fact, the pontifical palace at Rome was the source whence it proceeded. Frauds and forgeries to advance the power and prosperity of the church have in all ages been esteemed lawful by the papal hierarchy.”  {GC88 575.4}

[For further details, read Psalm 119:9, 11; and Ellen G. White’s 1888 edition of The Great Controversy, Chapter 35: “The Character and Aims of the Papacy,” GC88 563, specifically GC88 573.2 – 576.1 (for today). Also, listen to the recording to hear the commentary of Pastor Flemons.]

Words of Encouragement

Micah 7:8, 9 When I sit in darkness, the Lord shall be a light unto me. I will bear the indignation of the Lord, because I have sinned against him, until he plead my cause, and execute judgment for me.  (Also read Conflict and Courage for June 24, CC 182.)

Worship: When a Church Proves Unfaithful / Wellness: Cabbage Juice for Ulcers and Gastritis

Worship: For Heaven’s Sake  The Jewish Church had a lot of precious promises. These precious promises passed on to the Christian Church. Why?Pastor Flemons explained and confirmed it with these two statements.

“The Lord Jesus will always have a chosen people to serve Him. When the Jewish people rejected Christ, the Prince of life, He took from them the kingdom of God and gave it unto the Gentiles. God will continue to work on this principle with every branch of His work. When a church proves unfaithful to the word of the Lord, whatever their position may be, however high and sacred their calling, the Lord can no longer work with them. Others are then chosen to bear important responsibilities. But, if these in turn do not purify their lives from every wrong action, if they do not establish pure and holy principles in all their borders, then the Lord will grievously afflict and humble them and, unless they repent, will remove them from their place and make them a reproach….” {UL 131.3} [The devotional reading for April 27]

“God has a church. It is not the great cathedral, neither is it the national establishment, neither is it the various denominations; it is the people who love God and keep His commandments. ‘Where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them’ (Matthew 18:20). Where Christ is even among the humble few, this is Christ’s church, for the presence of the High and Holy One who inhabiteth eternity can alone constitute a church.” {UL 315.5} [The devotional reading for October 28]

This is in harmony with the principle of Protestantism, says Pastor Flemons, who also recommended the reading of Chapter 11, “The Protest of the Princes,” in the book The Great Controversy, by Ellen G. White. Pastor Flemons reminded listeners that there are really only two churches: “the church of the Living God and the synagogue of Satan.” Regardless of your denomination, either you’re part of the one or the other.

[For additional details, please read John 7:1; Mark 3:14The Upward Look, by Ellen G. White, UL 131, UL 315. Also, listen to the recording to hear the commentary of Pastor Flemons, who sang Hymn 595, “Let Every Lamp Be Burning.”]

Wellness: For Health’s Sake  Shelem Flemons, a doctor of biblical wellness, says that cabbage juice is more effective for ulcers and gastritis than conventional treatment. He based his comments on the health.news article: “9 Science-Backed Home Remedies for Ulcers.” But he says that he has been using cabbage juice for healing ulcers and gastritis for thirty years. He has a whole regimen that includes TOR’s Tummy Soother, which has ingredients like goldenseal, myrrh, cayenne, gentian, and other herbs that help heal the  stomach.

Because of its high vitamins C and K content, cabbage juice can be used for a wide range of digestive conditions, but especially for ulcers. It kills the H. pylori bacteria that typically causes ulcers, says Pastor Flemons. It also heals the wound. In fact, one study found that one quart of fresh cabbage juice given throughout the day healed ulcers within “7-10 days of treatment.” That is “3.5 to 6 times faster than the average healing time reported in previous studies in those who followed a conventional treatment (9).” More than that, fresh cabbage juice can also prevent ulcers. And doctors knew its power “decades before antibiotics were available to help heal stomach ulcers.”

Foods that need to be avoided include milk, alcohol, coffee and soft drinks, and spicy foods (other than cayenne). They either increase stomach acid, damage the lining of the stomach and digestive tract, and can create feelings of irritation. These foods should be avoided by those who are trying to heal stomach ulcers, as well as those who want to avoid developing them.

(For more details, please listen to the recording.)

Words of Encouragement

Luke 12:15  And he said unto them, Take heed, and beware of covetousness: for a man’s life consisteth not in the abundance of the things which he possesseth.  (Also read Numbers 23 and Conflict and Courage for April 18, CC 114.)

Proverbs 4:23  Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life. (Also read With God at Dawn for April 18, WGD 110.)

Worship: First Duty to God and Man / Wellness: One Strong Temptation

Worship: For Heaven’s Sake  “Our first duty toward God and our fellow-beings is that of self-development. Every faculty with which the Creator has endowed us should be cultivated to the highest degree of perfection, that we may be able to do the greatest amount of good of which we are capable. Hence that time is spent to good account which is used in the establishment and preservation of physical and mental health. We cannot afford to dwarf or cripple any function of body or mind. As surely as we do this, we must suffer the consequences.” {CTBH 41.2}

Sadly, people who do this and who lack self-esteem tend to want to keep others down too, even to the point of abuse. But God wants, even requires, each of us to develop every faculty “to the highest degree of perfection.”

By all means, says Pastor Flemons, “Don’t be kept in bondage. . . . Don’t stay in an abusive situation. . . . Don’t gamble your life away. . . . Don’t allow yourself to be dwarfed by any means or circumstances.” God wants to deliver us all from anything that will dwarf us for His use.

Therefore, “Every man has the opportunity, to a great extent, of making himself whatever he chooses to be. The blessings of this life, and also of the immortal state, are within his reach. He may build up a character of solid worth, gaining new strength at every step. He may advance daily in knowledge and wisdom, conscious of new delights as he progresses, adding virtue to virtue, grace to grace. His faculties will improve by use; the more wisdom he gains, the greater will be his capacity for acquiring. His intelligence, knowledge, and virtue will thus develop into greater strength and more perfect symmetry.” {CTBH 41.3}

We only have one chance at life. Let us make the very best of it and lay hold onto eternity.

[For additional details, please read CTBH 41. And listen to the recording to hear the commentary of Pastor Flemons, who sang Hymn 520, “He Hideth My Soul.”]

Worship: For Health’s Sake  Shelem Flemons, a doctor of biblical wellness, read from Christian Temperance and Bible Hygiene regarding the indulgence of appetite. In part, it read like this:

“One of the strongest temptations that man has to meet is upon the point of appetite. . . . Adam and Eve were permitted to eat of all the trees in their Eden home, save one. The Lord said to the holy pair, ‘In the day that ye eat of the tree of knowledge of good and evil, ye shall surely die.’ [See Genesis 3.] Eve was beguiled by the serpent, and made to believe that God would not do as he had said. She ate, and thinking she felt the sensation of a new and more exalted life, she bore the fruit to her husband. The serpent had said that she should not die, and she felt no ill effects from eating the fruit,—nothing which could be interpreted to mean death, but, instead, a pleasurable sensation, which she imagined was as the angels felt. Her experience stood arrayed against the positive command of Jehovah, yet Adam permitted himself to be seduced by it. {CTBH 42.2}

“Since the first surrender to appetite, mankind have been growing more and more self-indulgent, until health has been sacrificed on the altar of appetite. The inhabitants of the antediluvian world were intemperate in eating and drinking. They would have flesh-meats, although God had at that time given man no permission to eat animal food. They ate and drank till the indulgence of their depraved appetite knew no bounds, and they became so corrupt that God could bear with them no longer. Their cup of iniquity was full, and he cleansed the earth of its moral pollution by a flood.” {CTBH 43.1}

We must overcome appetite, or it will overcome us. To prevent an early death, eat according to the will of God and avoid the temptation to indulge. When the temptation is the strongest, remember, that is because God is about to do the greatest work in your life, says Pastor Flemons. Don’t succumb to the temptation that you don’t miss your blessing.
