Worship: When a Church Proves Unfaithful / Wellness: Cabbage Juice for Ulcers and Gastritis

Worship: For Heaven’s Sake  The Jewish Church had a lot of precious promises. These precious promises passed on to the Christian Church. Why?Pastor Flemons explained and confirmed it with these two statements.

“The Lord Jesus will always have a chosen people to serve Him. When the Jewish people rejected Christ, the Prince of life, He took from them the kingdom of God and gave it unto the Gentiles. God will continue to work on this principle with every branch of His work. When a church proves unfaithful to the word of the Lord, whatever their position may be, however high and sacred their calling, the Lord can no longer work with them. Others are then chosen to bear important responsibilities. But, if these in turn do not purify their lives from every wrong action, if they do not establish pure and holy principles in all their borders, then the Lord will grievously afflict and humble them and, unless they repent, will remove them from their place and make them a reproach….” {UL 131.3} [The devotional reading for April 27]

“God has a church. It is not the great cathedral, neither is it the national establishment, neither is it the various denominations; it is the people who love God and keep His commandments. ‘Where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them’ (Matthew 18:20). Where Christ is even among the humble few, this is Christ’s church, for the presence of the High and Holy One who inhabiteth eternity can alone constitute a church.” {UL 315.5} [The devotional reading for October 28]

This is in harmony with the principle of Protestantism, says Pastor Flemons, who also recommended the reading of Chapter 11, “The Protest of the Princes,” in the book The Great Controversy, by Ellen G. White. Pastor Flemons reminded listeners that there are really only two churches: “the church of the Living God and the synagogue of Satan.” Regardless of your denomination, either you’re part of the one or the other.

[For additional details, please read John 7:1; Mark 3:14The Upward Look, by Ellen G. White, UL 131, UL 315. Also, listen to the recording to hear the commentary of Pastor Flemons, who sang Hymn 595, “Let Every Lamp Be Burning.”]

Wellness: For Health’s Sake  Shelem Flemons, a doctor of biblical wellness, says that cabbage juice is more effective for ulcers and gastritis than conventional treatment. He based his comments on the health.news article: “9 Science-Backed Home Remedies for Ulcers.” But he says that he has been using cabbage juice for healing ulcers and gastritis for thirty years. He has a whole regimen that includes TOR’s Tummy Soother, which has ingredients like goldenseal, myrrh, cayenne, gentian, and other herbs that help heal the  stomach.

Because of its high vitamins C and K content, cabbage juice can be used for a wide range of digestive conditions, but especially for ulcers. It kills the H. pylori bacteria that typically causes ulcers, says Pastor Flemons. It also heals the wound. In fact, one study found that one quart of fresh cabbage juice given throughout the day healed ulcers within “7-10 days of treatment.” That is “3.5 to 6 times faster than the average healing time reported in previous studies in those who followed a conventional treatment (9).” More than that, fresh cabbage juice can also prevent ulcers. And doctors knew its power “decades before antibiotics were available to help heal stomach ulcers.”

Foods that need to be avoided include milk, alcohol, coffee and soft drinks, and spicy foods (other than cayenne). They either increase stomach acid, damage the lining of the stomach and digestive tract, and can create feelings of irritation. These foods should be avoided by those who are trying to heal stomach ulcers, as well as those who want to avoid developing them.

Words of Encouragement

Luke 12:15  And he said unto them, Take heed, and beware of covetousness: for a man’s life consisteth not in the abundance of the things which he possesseth.  (Also read Numbers 23 and Conflict and Courage for April 18, CC 114.)

Worship: First Duty to God and Man / Wellness: One Strong Temptation

Worship: For Heaven’s Sake  “Our first duty toward God and our fellow-beings is that of self-development. Every faculty with which the Creator has endowed us should be cultivated to the highest degree of perfection, that we may be able to do the greatest amount of good of which we are capable. Hence that time is spent to good account which is used in the establishment and preservation of physical and mental health. We cannot afford to dwarf or cripple any function of body or mind. As surely as we do this, we must suffer the consequences.” {CTBH 41.2}

Sadly, people who do this and who lack self-esteem tend to want to keep others down too, even to the point of abuse. But God wants, even requires, each of us to develop every faculty “to the highest degree of perfection.”

By all means, says Pastor Flemons, “Don’t be kept in bondage. . . . Don’t stay in an abusive situation. . . . Don’t gamble your life away. . . . Don’t allow yourself to be dwarfed by any means or circumstances.” God wants to deliver us all from anything that will dwarf us for His use.

Therefore, “Every man has the opportunity, to a great extent, of making himself whatever he chooses to be. The blessings of this life, and also of the immortal state, are within his reach. He may build up a character of solid worth, gaining new strength at every step. He may advance daily in knowledge and wisdom, conscious of new delights as he progresses, adding virtue to virtue, grace to grace. His faculties will improve by use; the more wisdom he gains, the greater will be his capacity for acquiring. His intelligence, knowledge, and virtue will thus develop into greater strength and more perfect symmetry.” {CTBH 41.3}

We only have one chance at life. Let us make the very best of it and lay hold onto eternity.

[For additional details, please read CTBH 41. And listen to the recording to hear the commentary of Pastor Flemons, who sang Hymn 520, “He Hideth My Soul.”]

Worship: For Health’s Sake  Shelem Flemons, a doctor of biblical wellness, read from Christian Temperance and Bible Hygiene regarding the indulgence of appetite. In part, it read like this:

“One of the strongest temptations that man has to meet is upon the point of appetite. . . . Adam and Eve were permitted to eat of all the trees in their Eden home, save one. The Lord said to the holy pair, ‘In the day that ye eat of the tree of knowledge of good and evil, ye shall surely die.’ [See Genesis 3.] Eve was beguiled by the serpent, and made to believe that God would not do as he had said. She ate, and thinking she felt the sensation of a new and more exalted life, she bore the fruit to her husband. The serpent had said that she should not die, and she felt no ill effects from eating the fruit,—nothing which could be interpreted to mean death, but, instead, a pleasurable sensation, which she imagined was as the angels felt. Her experience stood arrayed against the positive command of Jehovah, yet Adam permitted himself to be seduced by it. {CTBH 42.2}

“Since the first surrender to appetite, mankind have been growing more and more self-indulgent, until health has been sacrificed on the altar of appetite. The inhabitants of the antediluvian world were intemperate in eating and drinking. They would have flesh-meats, although God had at that time given man no permission to eat animal food. They ate and drank till the indulgence of their depraved appetite knew no bounds, and they became so corrupt that God could bear with them no longer. Their cup of iniquity was full, and he cleansed the earth of its moral pollution by a flood.” {CTBH 43.1}

We must overcome appetite, or it will overcome us. To prevent an early death, eat according to the will of God and avoid the temptation to indulge. When the temptation is the strongest, remember, that is because God is about to do the greatest work in your life, says Pastor Flemons. Don’t succumb to the temptation that you don’t miss your blessing.
