“Disease lets you know you are dying before your time,” said Pastor Flemons, director of the Times of Refreshing Wellness Ministry and host of TOR’s Worship and Wellness daily broadcast.  He told listeners to think of disease as an alarm clock that lets you know something is wrong and something must change.

He then shared a quote from one of his favorite authors, Ellen White: “The only hope of better things is in the education of the people in right principles. Let physicians teach the people that restorative power is not in drugs, but in nature. Disease is an effort of nature to free the system from conditions that result from a violation of the laws of health. In case of sickness, the cause should be ascertained. Unhealthful conditions should be changed, wrong habits corrected. Then nature is to be assisted in her effort to expel impurities and to re-establish right conditions in the system.” – {MH 127.1}

The following ten principles were introduced:

  1. GOD is the source of healing. (See Psalm 103:3; Exodus 15:26.) Exodus 15: 26: “…If thou wilt diligently hearken to the voice of the LORD thy GOD, and wilt do that which is right in his sight, and wilt give ear to his commandments, and keep all his statutes, I will put none of these diseases upon thee, which I have brought upon the Egyptians: for I am the LORD that healeth thee.” Pastor Flemons added that GOD cares intimately for our health, that He needs absolutely nothing to bring about healing, but that He chooses to use instruments (such as herbs, foods or supplements) to accomplish healing.
  2. We are healed according to our faith. (See James 5:15; Matthew 9:22.) James 5:15: “And the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the LORD shall raise him up; and if he have committed sins, they shall be forgiven him.” Pastor Flemons added that a lot of times we don’t have faith, because we are sinning. Sin destroys faith. God wants us to simply ask for forgiveness and accept His healing power.
  3. We must work. James 2:20 states, “But wilt thou know, O vain man, that faith without works is dead?”
  4. Start with education. (See Proverbs 4:7; Psalm 119:104; and Hosea 4:6.) Hosea 4:6 (first part) states, “My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge.”
  5. Ascertain the cause. (See Proverbs 26:2; Job 29:16; and Ministry of Healing, p. 234.) “The curse causeless shall not come” (Proverbs 26:2). “Disease never comes without a cause. The way is prepared, and disease invited, by disregard of the laws of health” (MH234).
  6. Change unhealthful conditions. This refers to your spiritual, mental and physical surroundings. (For example, piles of decayed leaves just outside of our open windows introduce toxins into our homes. Remove them.)
  7. Correct wrong habits. Habits are repeated actions. It’s the things we eat. It is the amount of exercise we get. It is the things we drink.
  8. Cleanse the system.
  • This is done by relaxing digestion. In other words doing some fasting. This is often accomplished by juice fasting.
  • You must also cleanse the organs of elimination. That refers to the colon, liver, kidneys, skin, and lungs.
  • These organs are cleansed through lifestyle change as well as herbs and hydrotherapy.
  • Continue to follow the REFRESHING way:
    • R – Rely on GOD
    • E – Eat Healthy
    • F – Fresh Air
