Worship: Only Those Who Follow God / Wellness: Tips on Fats

Worship: For Heaven’s Sake  Only follow those who follow God. God is a God of order, as exemplified in the passage of Scripture discussed today. Lawlessness, lack of obedience and wrong views in Christianity give rise to atheism. (Read more below.)

Wellness: For Health’s Sake  Using a Fox News health article, Pastor Flemons explained the dangers of trans fats and recommended healthy fats for daily consumption. (Read more below.)

Special Prayer is offered daily for chosen listeners: 5354.

QT/QT  Samantha, a little kid, surprised and refreshed us with a question of her own! Samantha wanted to know how she could get healthy fats in her diet without eating nuts. Her braces and dentist prevent her from eating nuts. Pastor Flemons recommended she eat chia gel, without chewing the tiny seeds, and sprinkle ground flaxseed on her foods.

For Heaven’s Sake…

Carelessness in speech among professed Christians who fail to really study the Bible can cause doubt and confusion and anger in children, which can lead to atheism, says Pastor Flemons. Too frequently at funerals or in conversation, references about the dead as though they are alive are thoughtlessly spoken. “God took your mother.” “She’s looking down on us, smiling.”

Sometimes, it is simple logic. We live the way we want to live, regardless of what the Bible says and die early. Improperly handling the stresses of life, plus poor dietary habits and lack of proper rest, water, fresh air or sunlight add up to disease and an early death. An early death is dying before God’s appointed time. The Bible warns against dying early. The Bible also makes it very clear what death is and is not.

Ezekiel 33:11  As I live, saith the Lord GOD, I have no pleasure in the death of the wicked; but that the wicked turn from his way and live: turn ye, turn ye from your evil ways; for why will ye die O house of Israel?

Exodus 20:12  Honor thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee.

Psalm 117:15  The dead praise not the LORD, neither any that go down into silence.

Ecclesiastes 9:5  For the living know that they shall die: but the dead know not any thing, neither have they any more a reward; for the memory of them is forgotten.

The way we live determines the length of our lives. Once we are dead, we know nothing. All of our senses (sight, smell, touch, taste, hearing) are nonfunctional. We are silenced in every way, except for the influence we have left on others.

In today’s study of Joshua 1:10-18, the godly influence of Moses is seen in the leadership of Joshua and in the attitude of those left to follow him into Canaan.

Joshua 1:10-18

10 Then Joshua commanded the officers of the people, saying,
11 Pass through the host, and command the people, saying, Prepare you victuals; for within three days ye shall pass over this Jordan, to go in to possess the land, which theLord your God giveth you to possess it.
12 And to the Reubenites, and to the Gadites, and to half the tribe of Manasseh, spake Joshua, saying,
13 Remember the word which Moses the servant of the Lord commanded you, saying, The Lord your God hath given you rest, and hath given you this land.
14 Your wives, your little ones, and your cattle, shall remain in the land which Moses gave you on this side Jordan; but ye shall pass before your brethren armed, all the mighty men of valour, and help them;
15 Until the Lord have given your brethren rest, as he hath given you, and they also have possessed the land which the Lord your God giveth them: then ye shall return unto the land of your possession, and enjoy it, which Moses the Lord’s servant gave you on this side Jordan toward the sunrising.
16 And they answered Joshua, saying, All that thou commandest us we will do, and whithersoever thou sendest us, we will go.
17 According as we hearkened unto Moses in all things, so will we hearken unto thee: only the Lord thy God be with thee, as he was with Moses.

18 Whosoever he be that doth rebel against thy commandment, and will not hearken unto thy words in all that thou commandest him, he shall be put to death: only be strong and of a good courage.

Another key lesson in this passage is this, says Pastor Flemons, “We don’t win, until we all win.”

For Health’s Sake…

Trans fats increase levels of bad cholesterol and decrease levels of good cholesterol. They are inflammatory and bad for heart health. They are found in hydrogenated and partially hydrogenated oils. Steer clear of them, says Colleen De Bellefonds.

The article “Exactly how much fat you should be eating each day,” by Colleen De Bellefonds, rates trans fats, saturated fats, polyunsaturated fats, and monounsaturated fats as bad, not-so-bad, good, and great. Pastor Flemons, a doctor of biblical wellness and naturopathy, says the only saturated fat he’d recommend is coconut oil.

Pastor Flemons agrees with De Bellefonds that Americans tend to get too much polyunsaturated fats in the form of omega-6. That’s because omega-6 is found in corn and soybean oils, margarine, mayo and some salad dressings. Fast foods frequently contain omega-6. He recommends we increase omega-3 fats found in chia seeds, walnuts, flaxseeds and tofu.

All that said, monounsaturated fats are best. They are found in plant-based sources, like nuts, seeds and avocados. Of the oil sources listed in the article, Pastor Flemons recommends flaxseed and olive.

Healthy fats help you absorb vitamins, stay full, avoid crashing, control your appetite, and promote weight loss. The article discusses the benefits of healthy fats more in detail. For the full article, visit this link: http://www.foxnews.com/health/2016/09/21/exactly-how-much-fat-should-be-eating-each-day.html.
