Worship: For Heaven’s Sake Speaking in tongues, says Pastor Flemons, is a gift of the Spirit to spread the gospel. Period. It is not proof of sanctification or that you have achieved some heightened spiritual level. Using the first twenty verses of 1 Corinthians 14, Pastor Flemons taught how the gift really functions for the church. (Read more below.)

Words of Encouragement
Psalm 37:39-40 But the salvation of the righteous is of the LORD: he is their strength in the time of trouble. And the LORD shall help them, and deliver them: he shall deliver them from the wicked, and save them, because they trust in him.
Psalm 91:13 Thou shalt tread upon the lion and adder: the young lion and the dragon shalt thou trample under feet.

For Heaven’s Sake…
Keep in mind, he said, the previous chapter is Apostle Paul’s famous discourse on love: what it is and is not. Also keep in mind that Paul is speaking to the church members at Corinth. At the outset of chapter 14, Paul reaffirms the need to “follow after charity [or love] and desire spiritual gifts.” But Paul quickly changes the topic to the importance of prophesying and the role of the diversity of languages within the church for growth.
The church must be edified. It must be fed divine truths that promote Christian maturity, both for the individual and the church as a congregation, even the whole Christian community worldwide despite its numerous different languages. Speaking, therefore, in a language that is not understood by the hearers prevents communication and progress at every level.
It would be as the Tower of Babel: confusion. (Pastor Flemons suggests reading Genesis 11.) As long as the people spoke the same language and were all agreed, there was nothing that they could not accomplish, God said in verse 6. It was shortly after the flood that had destroyed everything except Noah’s ark. They had begun building a tower to heaven. But God prevented it. He confounded their language so “that they may not understand one another’s speech” (Genesis 11:7). Once the language was split into multiple languages, the people could not understand one another. They could make no progress. Frustrated, they stopped building the city with its tower to heaven. Instead, they scattered to every corner of the earth.
During the season of Pentecost, these groups convened in Jerusalem. In order to witness to these vast groups now scattered all over the world, God miraculously provided communication between the speakers of the gospel and all those who heard that they may help spread the gospel in their region. Beyond that, those who carried the gospel and prophesied were given the gift of tongues or the gift to speak so that people of other languages could understand the gospel: the doctrine, the prophecies, the revelations.
The same is true today.
Who would dare speak only in Japanese to a group of English-only speaking people? “So likewise ye, except ye utter by the tongue words easy to be understood, how shall it be known what is spoken? for ye shall speak into the air” (1 Cor 14:9). This is Apostle Paul’s conclusion, who spoke “with tongues more than ye all.” He said, “Yet in the church I had rather speak five words with my understanding, that by my voice I might teach others also, than in ten thousand words in an unknown tongue” [or unfamiliar language] (1 Cor 14:19).
When it is fully understood what the Apostle Paul is saying here, what can be concluded about a group of people who normally speak the same language, but who gather in one church or place and all simultaneously begin muttering audible but unintelligible sounds?
Paul says, “Therefore if I know not the meaning of the voice, I shall be unto him that speaketh a barbarian, and he that speaketh shall be a barbarian unto me. Even so ye, forasmuch as ye are zealous of spiritual gifts, seek that ye may excel to the edifying of the church” (1 Cor 14:11-12).
For Health’s Sake…
“Drink ten 8-ounce glasses of water,” says Pastor Flemons, a doctor of biblical wellness and naturopathy. Drink them as fast as you can within 45 minutes to an hour or less. Doing this will stop a cold or flu at the onset, because it flushes out toxins fairly quickly.
Doing this provides added benefits to every major body organ.
Kidneys need water for urination.
Lungs need water for respiration.
The colon needs water for defecation.
The liver needs water for detoxification.
The skin needs water for perspiration.
Sometimes water is all you really need, as too many fail to drink the required daily amount of water and end up with a lot of unnecessary ailments, including headaches. So how much water must you consume daily? Divide your weight by 2. Drink that amount of water in ounces. Just for easy computation, 100 pounds divided in half equals 50 pounds. If you weigh 100 pounds, you should drink a minimum of 50 ounces of water. Drink more if you are physically very active or talk a lot.
