Worship: In the Wilderness / Wellness: Heart Attacks

Worship: For Heaven’s Sake  In all the years of their wanderings in the wilderness, the children of Israel were the apple of God’s eye, though they tried Him and rebelled against Him and caused Him to punish them time and again. It was because of His love and mercies that they were not utterly consumed.  (Read more below.)

Wellness: For Health’s Sake Atherosclerosis, or hardening of the arteries, leads to heart attacks. Pastor Flemons, a doctor of biblical wellness, helped listeners understand heart attacks and how to avoid them. (Read more below.)

How Christ Fulfilled the Law

The wise man, King Solomon, says that the conclusion of the whole matter lies in keeping the commandments of God. It is the whole duty of man. Pastor Shelem Flemons has then fittingly provided a broad study of God’s Ten Commandments in a way possibly few would expect. Every serious student of Scripture will benefit from the reading. Consider it your “heavenly homeland security.” Available here: https://torwm.org/product/how-christ-fulfilled-the-law/.

Words of Encouragement

Zephaniah 3:13  The remnant of Israel shall not do iniquity, nor speak like; neither shall a deceitful tongue be found in their mouth: for they shall feed and lie down and none shall make them afraid.

Romans 8:26  Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.

For Heaven’s Sake…

“During these years the people were constantly reminded that they were under the divine rebuke. In the rebellion at Kadesh they had rejected God, and God had for the time rejected them. Since they had proved unfaithful to His covenant, they were not to receive the sign of the covenant, the rite of circumcision. Their desire to return to the land of slavery had shown them to be unworthy of freedom, and the ordinance of the Passover, instituted to commemorate the deliverance from bondage, was not to be observed.PP 406.2

“Yet the continuance of the tabernacle service testified that God had not utterly forsaken His people. And His providence still supplied their wants. ‘The Lord thy God hath blessed thee in all the works of thy hand,’ said Moses, in rehearsing the history of their wanderings. ‘He knoweth thy walking through this great wilderness; these forty years the Lord thy God hath been with thee; thou hast lacked nothing.’ And the Levites’ hymn, recorded by Nehemiah, vividly pictures God’s care for Israel, even during these years of rejection and banishment: ‘Thou in Thy manifold mercies forsookest them not in the wilderness: the pillar of the cloud departed not from them by day, to lead them in the way; neither the pillar of fire by night, to show them light, and the way wherein they should go. Thou gavest also Thy good Spirit to instruct them, and withheldest not Thy manna from their mouth, and gavest them water for their thirst. Yea, forty years didst Thou sustain them in the wilderness; … their clothes waxed not old, and their feet swelled not.’ Nehemiah 9:19-21.PP 406.3

“The wilderness wandering was not only ordained as a judgment upon the rebels and murmurers, but it was to serve as a discipline for the rising generation, preparatory to their entrance into the Promised Land. Moses declared to them, ‘As a man chasteneth his son, so the Lord thy God chasteneth thee,’ ‘to humble thee, and to prove thee, to know what was in thine heart, whether thou wouldest keep His commandments, or no. And He … suffered thee to hunger, and fed thee with manna, which thou knewest not, neither did thy fathers know; that He might make thee know that man doth not live by bread only, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of the Lord doth man live.’ Deuteronomy 8:5, 2, 3.PP 407.1″

For Health’s Sake…

Heart attacks can happen suddenly and cause sudden death. Very few signs come ahead of heart attacks. There may be sharp chest pains or sudden weakness. But there may be no advance sign at all. Usually, a blood clot from atherosclerosis has gotten caught up in the heart. And the if it is severe enough, the heart will stop.

“Most occur on Monday mornings,” says Pastor Flemons. On Sunday evenings, people tend to eat large meals and go to bed before that meal has been completely digested. It is always dangerous to recline on a full stomach. Heart attacks can easily happen then. Many deaths have been caused by eating fatty meals and going to bed. It is always best to take a stroll within the first 30 minutes after a meal.

If you are having chest pains or think you are having a heart attack, cough repeatedly. This will force the blood to flow again. Cayenne pepper (in tincture or powder form) placed under the tongue acts like nitroglycerin. It is nature’s nitroglycerin.

You can clean up the arteries in a six-month period by eating less oily, greasy foods and eating more fresh raw foods, fruits, vegetables, nuts, grains, and seeds, and totally eliminating meat, dairy and sugar from the diet. Pastor Flemons recommends Dr. John McDougall’s Forks Over Knives for reading or viewing. The 2011 documentary essentially launched the food-as-medicine revolution that has been a tenet of Seventh-day Adventist beliefs for more than a hundred years. It is the diet of the Bible that works for total health.
