Words of Encouragement
Luke 10:19 Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you.
Isaiah 43:1-2 But now thus says the LORD that created thee, O Jacob, and he that formed thee, O Israel, Fear not: for I have redeemed thee, I have called thee by name; thou art mine. When thou passest through the waters, I will be with thee; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow thee: when thou walkest through the fire, thou shalt not be burned; neither shall the flame kindle upon thee.

For Heaven’s Sake…
When the constant disobedience, rebellion and unrepentant arrogance of King Saul caused God to reject him as king, “he was filled with bitter rebellion and despair. … He did not accept with meekness the chastisement of God; but his haughty spirit became desperate, until he was on the verge of losing his reason. His counselor advised him to seek for the services of a skillful musician, in the hope that the soothing notes of a sweet instrument might calm his troubled spirit. In the providence of God, David, as a skillful performer upon the harp, was brought before the king. His lofty and heaven-inspired strains had the desired effect. The brooding melancholy that had settled like a dark cloud over the mind of Saul was charmed away.” PP 643.1
While in the presence of the king, David learned the ways and responsibilities of royalty. He saw the temptations that beset King Saul and learned that behind the “glory of royalty,” the king was “far from happy.” As David returned to the pastured hills, he was relieved to be away from the royal court. But the experience around King Saul served to better prepare David to be Israel’s next king.
First he had to conquer a giant. The Philistine giant, Goliath, had alone taunted the terrified army of Israel for forty days. On the day that David had been sent with a message and a gift from his father for his brothers and to learn if they were safe, he heard Goliath spewing out foul insults to Israel and challenging them to a send a man to meet him in single combat. Little did Goliath know that even he wasn’t a real man. “A real man,” says Pastor Flemons, “is one who has Christ as his head.” The loser and his army would become servants of the winner and his people. David was appalled at the fear of Israel and “was fired with zeal to preserve the honor of the living God and the credit of His people.” PP 645.1
He was taken to King Saul and when he could not be moved from accepting the challenge, David was suited with the king’s armor and he started toward the battlefield. Soon he returned it to the king, explaining that he could not go into battle in the king’s armor.”For I have not proved them,” he said. Instead, he went to battle with only his staff in his hand, his shepherd’s scrip, and a simple sling. After choosing five smooth stones out of the brook and securing them in his bag, David approached Goliath.
Filled with amazement and anger, Goliath shouted,”Am I a dog that thou comest to me with staves? Come unto me and I will give thy flesh unto the fowls of the air, and to the beasts of the field.” PP 647.1
“David did not weaken before the champion of the Philistines. Stepping forward, he said to his antagonist: ‘Thou comest to me with a sword, and with a spear, and with a shield: but I come to thee in the name of the Lord of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom thou hast defied. This day will the Lord deliver thee into mine hand; and I will smite thee, and take thine head from thee; and I will give the carcasses of the host of the Philistines this day unto the fowls of the air, and to the wild beasts of the earth; that all the earth may know that there is a God in Israel. And all this assembly shall know that the Lord saveth not with sword and spear: for the battle is the Lord’s, and He will give you into our hands.’ PP 647.2
“There was a ring of fearlessness in his tone, a look of triumph and rejoicing upon his fair countenance. This speech, given in a clear, musical voice, rang out on the air, and was distinctly heard by the listening thousands marshaled for war. The anger of Goliath was roused to the very highest heat. In his rage he pushed up the helmet that protected his forehead and rushed forward to wreak vengeance upon his opponent. The son of Jesse was preparing for his foe. ‘And it came to pass, when the Philistine arose, and came and drew nigh to meet David, that David hasted, and ran toward the army to meet the Philistine. And David put his hand in his bag, and took thence a stone, and slang it, and smote the Philistine in the forehead, that the stone sunk into his forehead; and he fell upon his face to the earth.’ PP 648.1
“Amazement spread along the lines of the two armies. They had been confident that David would be slain; but when the stone went whizzing through the air, straight to the mark, they saw the mighty warrior tremble, and reach forth his hands, as if he were struck with sudden blindness. The giant reeled, and staggered, and like a smitten oak, fell to the ground. David did not wait an instant. He sprang upon the prostrate form of the Philistine, and with both hands laid hold of Goliath’s heavy sword. A moment before, the giant had boasted that with it he would sever the youth’s head from his shoulders and give his body to the fowls of the air. Now it was lifted in the air, and then the head of the boaster rolled from his trunk, and a shout of exultation went up from the camp of Israel.” PP 648.2
And that’s how you conquer a giant!

For Health’s Sake…
The Bible says in the parable of the sower that the seed is the word of God. In the female, there is also a seed: the egg. Once every month until menopause the egg is emitted from the ovary.
The egg must first defy gravity as it travels through the Fallopian tube to rest and wait for fertilization. This uphill journey through the Fallopian tube is likened to the willing heart that is drawn upward to God. The journey is cumbered with uphill battles.
During intercourse, germination takes place. This is conception. A new life is conceived. This is a microscopic event. The egg is a representation of the heart. The sperm represents the word of God and the Holy Spirit, which is embedded into the heart for the spiritual birth.
The monthly menstrual cycle has spiritual significance in that it represents the longsuffering mercy of God, which constantly reaches out to the sinful heart. When the egg is not fertilized, the blood cleanses the whole area of the uterus, which has been prepared for the growth of a fetus. Each month represents some level of spiritual growth. It is a cyclical cleansing and growing until menopause, which represents the close of probation.
