Words of Encouragement
1 Corinthians 2:12 Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the spirit which is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God.
Psalm 78:15-16 He clave the rocks in the wilderness, and gave them drink as out of the great depths. He brought streams also out of the rock, and caused waters to run down like rivers.
For Heaven’s Sake…
The influence of Ezra was so necessary among those seeking to rebuild Jerusalem, both for those returning with him and those who had already returned or never left. In any case, a true revival was required. The commands of God had been greatly disregarded. Even the priests and Levites had intermarried with unbelievers. The holy and unholy had been mingled.
At this thought, Ezra was visibly overwhelmed with grief and was left in astonishment for God’s people until the evening sacrificial ceremony. He appealed to God on behalf of the people during the evening assembly. He named the sins, acknowledged God’s goodness toward them in not punishing them according to the degree of their sins, and pleaded for repentance and deliverance from sin. He longed for peace with God for His people. Thankfully, a wonderful reformation began as Ezra displayed infinite patience and tact with every needy case.
“The sorrow of Ezra and his associates over the evils that had insidiously crept into the very heart of the Lord’s work, wrought repentance. Many of those who had sinned were deeply affected. ‘The people wept very sore.’ Ezra 10:1. In a limited degree they began to realize the heinousness of sin and the horror with which God regards it. They saw the sacredness of the law spoken at Sinai, and many trembled at the thought of their transgressions. PK 622.1
“Wherever Ezra labored, there sprang up a revival in the study of the Holy Scriptures. Teachers were appointed to instruct the people; the law of the Lord was exalted and made honorable. The books of the prophets were searched, and the passages foretelling the coming of the Messiah brought hope and comfort to many a sad and weary heart. PK 623.1
“Ezra’s motives were high and holy; in all that he did he was actuated by a deep love for souls. The compassion and tenderness that he revealed toward those who had sinned, either willfully or through ignorance, should be an object lesson to all who seek to bring about reforms. The servants of God are to be as firm as a rock where right principles are involved; and yet, withal, they are to manifest sympathy and forbearance. Like Ezra, they are to teach transgressors the way of life by calculating principles that are the foundation of all rightdoing. PK 623.3
“In this age of the world, when Satan is seeking, through manifold agencies, to blind the eyes of men and women to the binding claims of the law of God, there is need of men who can cause many to ‘tremble at the commandment of our God.’ Ezra 10:3. There is need of true reformers, who will point transgressors to the great Lawgiver and teach them that ‘the law of the Lord is perfect, converting the soul.’ Psalm 19:7. There is need of men mighty in the Scriptures, men whose every word and act exalts the statutes of Jehovah, men who seek to strengthen faith. Teachers are needed, oh, so much, who will inspire hearts with reverence and love for the Scriptures. PK 623.4
“The widespread iniquity prevalent today may in a great degree be attributed to a failure to study and obey the Scriptures, for when the word of God is set aside, its power to restrain the evil passions of the natural heart is rejected. Men sow to the flesh and of the flesh reap corruption. PK 624.1
“With the setting aside of the Bible has come a turning away from God’s law. The doctrine that men are released from obedience to the divine precepts, has weakened the force of moral obligation and opened the floodgates of iniquity upon the world. Lawlessness, dissipation, and corruption are sweeping in like an overwhelming flood. Everywhere are seen envy, evil surmising, hypocrisy, estrangement, emulation, strife, betrayal of sacred trusts, indulgence of lust. The whole system of religious principles and doctrines, which should form the foundation and framework of social life, seems to be a tottering mass, ready to fall in ruins. PK 624.2
“In the last days of this earth’s history the voice that spoke from Sinai is still declaring, ‘Thou shalt have no other gods before Me.’ Exodus 20:3. Man has set his will against the will of God, but he cannot silence the word of command. The human mind cannot evade its obligation to a higher power. Theories and speculations may abound; men may try to set science in opposition to revelation, and thus do away with God’s law; but stronger and still stronger comes the command, ‘Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and Him only shalt thou serve.’ Matthew 4:10. PK 624.3

For Health’s Sake…
“Psoriasis is a very common inflammatory skin condition. It may start at any age but usually appears between the ages of 15 – 40. The condition usually begins after an acute illness or stressful event. It is expected in modern medicine that you will have the disease for the rest of your life. Psoriasis causes erythematous plaques with a silvery scale. Erythematous refers to redness of the skin due to vasodilation and congested blood vessels – often a sign of inflammation. It causes thickening of the epidermis, new blood vessel,s and an infiltration of neutrophil and T Lymphocyte white blood cells. It is a disease of inflammation.
“The thickening epidermis is caused by abnormal keratinocytes, a type of skin cell that has a shorter life cycle. Normal keratinocytes shed their nucleus before entering into the stratum corneum, the top layer of the skin. In psoriasis, the nucleus is retained and this accounts for the scaly appearance.
“The large numbers of cell proliferation causes twisted, quilted capillaries below in the superficial dermis. This explains the erythema and pinpoint bleeding that sometimes occurs.
There are several different patterns of psoriasis.
“Classical psoriasis is the most common pattern revealing multiple red plaques with a silvery scaly surface. It can affect any part of the body but is usually seen on the extensor surfaces of elbows and knees as will as on the scalp.
“Flexural psoriasis occurs in combination with typical psoriasis and often occurs in skin folds such as the groin, armpits, and under the breast. In flexural psoriasis, the surface scale is lost leaving an erythematous lesion, which closely mimics other inflammatory skin disorders such as seborrheic dermatitis.
“Guttate psoriasis usually develops suddenly in young adults about two weeks after strep throat. It usually goes away within a few months. However, it can develop into classical psoriasis. It is characterized by several lesions that look like red droplets on the skin.
Nail involvement with psoriasis
“About half of the people with psoriasis have a nail bed involvement. It often causes yellow brown nail discoloration, pitting of the nail, as well as separation of the nail from the nail bed. Involvement of the nail bed is often a clue that the condition is psoriasis.
Joint involvement with psoriasis
“Psoriasis may also affect the joints. The condition is called psoriatic arthropathy. It usually affects the joints of the hand and wrist.
Rare life-threatening forms of psoriasis
“General pustular psoriasis causes sudden eruption of widespread areas of fiery red skin dotted with many sterile pustules. The patient may have fever.
Erythrodermic psoriasis occurs in patients with hard to manage psoriasis. The plaques continue to grow and merge covering most of the skin and leading to erythroderma.
From a biblical hygienic perspective, psoriasis may be caused by allergies, a deficiency of omega 3 fatty acids, and a general buildup of toxins in the system.
