Worship: Our Test / Wellness: Distress Can Kill You

Worship: For Heaven’s Sake  Every command of God is a promise that we can do whatever He commands with His help. Like Joshua, says Pastor Flemons, we are commanded not to be afraid, but to be of good courage. (Read Joshua 1:9.) Sharing counsel from Last Day Events, a book of compilations, Pastor Flemons read this statement and gave his own counsel:

“When the religion of Christ is most held in contempt, when His law is most despised, then should our zeal be the warmest and our courage and firmness the most unflinching. To stand in defense of truth and righteousness when the majority forsake us, to fight the battles of the Lord when champions are few—this will be our test. At this time we must gather warmth from the coldness of others, courage from their cowardice, and loyalty from their treason.—Testimonies for the Church 5:136 (1882).” {LDE 180.4}

Pastor Flemons gives this advice: Let us not be like the Peter, who was ready to take his sword and defend truth, yet would not stand in defense of righteousness.

[For additional details, please read Joshua 1:9; Last Day Events, LDE 180.4; and listen to the recording to hear the commentary of Pastor Flemons, who sang Hymn 76, “O Love That Wilt Not Let Me Go.”]

Worship: For Health’s Sake  Shelem Flemons, a doctor of biblical wellness, says it is not stress but “distress” that can kill you. Using Bible texts, like Genesis 32:27, Pastor says stress is not the problem. You can’t even sit up straight, unless there is stress, he says. It is when we lose our faith that we become distressed, which negatively affects our health. A burden is placed on the immune system and on every system of the body, because toxins are released that poison the body system.

We must learn to rely on God, says Pastor Flemons. Furthermore, it is imperative to never be in a position to knowingly do the wrong thing and still expect the blessing of God. That is presumption. That is sin, and sin is deadly.

Words of Encouragement

Genesis 19:1, 2  And there came two angels to Sodom at even: and Lot sat in the gate of Sodom: and Lot seeing them rose up to meet them; … and he said, Behold now, my lords, turn in, I pray you, into your servant’s house, and tarry all night.  (Also read Conflict and Courage, CC 52.)

Lamentations 3:21, 22  This I recall to my mind, therefore have I hope. It is of the Lord’s mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not. (Also read With God at Dawn, WGD 48.)
