Worship: Dress Reform, the Conclusion / Wellness: The New Caffeine

Worship: For Heaven’s Sake  Dress reform (presented in its own mini-series) follows talks by Pastor Flemons on a number of reforms instituted after 1798, when the Dark Ages ended. These reforms include the Bible, the Spirit of Prophecy, the Sanctuary, the Sabbath, Worship, Country Living, as well as Financial, Education, Home, Prophetic, Faith, Unity, and Health reforms in his series “Preparation for the Final Crisis,” which he says is “preparation for Heaven.”

Concluding his talk on dress reform, Pastor Flemons said, “God wants us to witness to people simply by our dress.” In fact, he said, “Christianity should emanate from the inside out. . . Our dress should make the statement that we belong to Him.”

With a personal testimony and using the parable of the fig tree, comparing it to the account of Adam and Eve sewing together fig leaves that revealed their guilt, Pastor Flemons discussed the importance of truly bearing the fruit of the Holy Spirit inwardly. He shared related Bible texts. Then he encouraged us to let our light shine through the outward appearance of our clothing. Others are affected, either for good or for evil.

Yes, says Pastor Flemons. “We are our brother’s keepers.” Finally, don’t crossdress. According to Deuteronomy 22:5, it’s an abomination to God.

[For additional details, please read  Psalm 1:1-3; Isaiah 44:3; Galatians 5:22, 23; Matthew 21:19; and Ellen G. White’s Testimonies for the Church, vol. 1, p 421.4 (1T 421.4). Also, listen to the recording to hear the commentary of Pastor Flemons.]

Wellness: For Health’s Sake  Shelem Flemons, a doctor of biblical wellness, says that the real new caffeine is safe: “It’s called rest!” Nothing is better at rejeuvenating the body than sleep.

The next best thing, he says, is “sipping on TOR’s Supertonic in grape juice.” Since he travels a lot, Pastor Flemons offered some tips for sustaining energy when you are tired. If you are on the road, pull over to a hotel before 11pm, sit in the lounge, and get a quick catnap. (Just put your head back. Don’t sprawl out!) If that’s not an option, it’s still not wise to pull over on the side of the road or even sleep at a rest stop. It’s too dangerous. If you must, park in a high traffic area nearest the front door and camera for your nap at a QwikTrip or a RaceTrac gas station, for instance.

Drink water. “It is the beverage of life,” he says. Drink orange juice. Roll down the window and get fresh air. But don’t drink coffee and other caffeinated beverages. The caffeine may stimulate you a bit. But at what cost? Caffeine irritates the stomach and dehydrates the system. It helps increase risk of hypertension, because it constricts blood vessels. It irritates the attitude, because it alters the mind: “your thinking and your nerves,” says Pastor Flemons.

Rather, take TOR’s Supertonic in water or grape juice, as Pastor Flemons does, and trust the LORD.

Worship: The Church at Ephesus / Wellness: Drugs Don’t Cure, 3 Reasons

Worship: For Heaven’s Sake  We can be helped in our walk with God, as we understand the messages to the seven churches addressed in the Revelation of Jesus Christ that was written by John, the beloved. “The whole book of Revelation was sent to the seven churches,” says Pastor Flemons. The seven churches represent God’s professed people from His ascension to His second coming.

The first church addressed was Ephesus. It was a working church. They were winning souls for the Master. But they left their first love. You can fight against evil. You can hold up a standard and resist apostasy, yet not have the love of God in your hearts, says Pastor Flemons.

To the church of Ephesus, Jesus said, “I know thy works, and thy labour, and thy patience, and how thou canst not bear them which are evil: and thou hast tried them which say they are apostles, and are not, and hast found them liars: And hast borne, and hast patience, and for my name’s sake hast labored, and hast not fainted. Nevertheless I have somewhat against thee, because thou hast left thy first love. Remember therefore from whence thou art fallen, and repent, and do the first works; or else I will come unto thee quickly, and will remove thy candlestick out of his place, except thou repent” (Revelation 2:2-5).

Repentance is genuine sorrow for sin and turning away from sin.

[For additional details, please read Revelation 1:1119; 2:1-7; John 13:35. Also, listen to the recording to hear the commentary of Pastor Flemons and hear him sing Hymn 522, “My Hope Is Built on Nothing Less.”]

Worship: For Health’s Sake  Shelem Flemons, a doctor of biblical wellness, shared a statement from the medical missionary manual, Ministry of Healing, p. 126, from which he reiterated three points.

The first point is that drugs do not cure. Instead they poison. The second point is that drugs do not cure, because they change the form of disease.  Thirdly, drugs do not cure, because the toxins can simply change the location of the disease.

The statement he read is this:

“People need to be taught that drugs do not cure disease. It is true that they sometimes afford present relief, and the patient appears to recover as the result of their use; this is because nature has sufficient vital force to expel the poison and to correct the conditions that caused the disease. Health is recovered in spite of the drug. But in most cases the drug only changes the form and location of the disease. Often the effect of the poison seems to be overcome for a time, but the results remain in the system and work great harm at some later period.” {MH 126.3}

When you put meals before pills, you can be healthy and expect healing.

Ephesians 4:32  And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ’s sake hath forgiven you. (Also read Conflict and Courage, CC 70.)

Ezekiel 16:62, 63  And I will establish my covenant with thee; and thou shalt know that I am the Lord; that thou mayest remember, and be confounded, and never open thy mouth any more because of thy shame, when I am pacified toward thee for all that thou hast done, saith the Lord God. (Also read With God at Dawn, WGD 66.)

Worship: Our Test / Wellness: Distress Can Kill You

Worship: For Heaven’s Sake  Every command of God is a promise that we can do whatever He commands with His help. Like Joshua, says Pastor Flemons, we are commanded not to be afraid, but to be of good courage. (Read Joshua 1:9.) Sharing counsel from Last Day Events, a book of compilations, Pastor Flemons read this statement and gave his own counsel:

“When the religion of Christ is most held in contempt, when His law is most despised, then should our zeal be the warmest and our courage and firmness the most unflinching. To stand in defense of truth and righteousness when the majority forsake us, to fight the battles of the Lord when champions are few—this will be our test. At this time we must gather warmth from the coldness of others, courage from their cowardice, and loyalty from their treason.—Testimonies for the Church 5:136 (1882).” {LDE 180.4}

Pastor Flemons gives this advice: Let us not be like the Peter, who was ready to take his sword and defend truth, yet would not stand in defense of righteousness.

[For additional details, please read Joshua 1:9; Last Day Events, LDE 180.4; and listen to the recording to hear the commentary of Pastor Flemons, who sang Hymn 76, “O Love That Wilt Not Let Me Go.”]

Worship: For Health’s Sake  Shelem Flemons, a doctor of biblical wellness, says it is not stress but “distress” that can kill you. Using Bible texts, like Genesis 32:27, Pastor says stress is not the problem. You can’t even sit up straight, unless there is stress, he says. It is when we lose our faith that we become distressed, which negatively affects our health. A burden is placed on the immune system and on every system of the body, because toxins are released that poison the body system.

We must learn to rely on God, says Pastor Flemons. Furthermore, it is imperative to never be in a position to knowingly do the wrong thing and still expect the blessing of God. That is presumption. That is sin, and sin is deadly.

Words of Encouragement

Genesis 19:1, 2  And there came two angels to Sodom at even: and Lot sat in the gate of Sodom: and Lot seeing them rose up to meet them; … and he said, Behold now, my lords, turn in, I pray you, into your servant’s house, and tarry all night.  (Also read Conflict and Courage, CC 52.)

Worship: Stony Ground Hearers – Revival Day 2 / Wellness: 4 Steps to Wellness

Worship: For Heaven’s Sake  Stony ground hearers receive God’s Word with much excitement. “But there is a problem,” says Pastor Flemons. The Word never took root. As we learn in the parable of the sower and the seed, rocks prevent the Word from taking root. Rocks, says Pastor Flemons, are used to carve idols. Idols are like rocks in the soil. A person who gets excited about God’s Word, but soon loses interest in the Word when it clashes with the lifestyle, has idols that keep God’s Word from taking firm root in the life.

Because of the idols in their hearts they cannot endure the reproach of a Christian. They refuse to be connected with Christianity, if it means they will be called a terrorist, or a fanatic. Sometimes the idols are hidden in the heart. Sometimes you aren’t aware of an idol in your life, because it hasn’t been put to the test yet. Ask God to reveal it or them to you. Anything that is more important to you than Christ is an idol. It could be alcohol, marijuana, or some relationship. If in any moment of your life, Christ cannot smile at whatever you’re thinking, saying or doing, then that is your idol.

[For additional details, please read Matthew 13:5,6, 20, 21; 2 Corinthians 4:7Christ’s Object Lessons, COL 46-50;  And listen to the recording to hear the commentary of Pastor Flemons.]

Worship: For Health’s Sake  Shelem Flemons, a doctor of biblical wellness, says that there are four steps to wellness. He read the steps as outlined in the book Ministry of Healing (p. 127). Basically it says that the first thing you must do is find out the cause of the disease. Next, you must change unhealthful conditions. Then, change wrong habits. Finally, assist the body in its effort to expel toxins and bring back balance in the system.

The way to find out the cause of the disease is to ask questions. “The cause of all disease is toxins,” says Pastor Flemons. But you need to review your lifestyle to understand how toxins are invading your system. How are the getting in? Go through the laws of health and discover which law(s) are being violated.

Use the REFRESHING acronym to help: Have you been relying on God, fully trusting Him? Have you been eating healthy: meaning a total plant-based diet? Or have you been consuming sugar and dairy products that compromise the immune system, and white flour products that are constipating? Have you been getting a continual supply of fresh air? Have you been getting good rest, usually getting to bed by 9:30 pm? Have you been exercising regularly? Have you been exercising self-control by abstaining from all things bad for you and doing only in moderation those things that are good? Have you been daily drinking a sufficient amount of H2O (water), and then drinking only between meals, rather than with your meals? Have you been getting in the sun regularly? Have you been persistently adhering to the laws of health, or are you tending to give up?  You must never give up! Finally, are you giving to others and helping them, if only by sharing what you’ve learned about being healthy?

Unhealthful conditions may include spending time in an environment of poor air quality, like mold or a smoke-filled room. Wrong habits may include drinking with meals, drinking sodas, regularly staying up too late, or going to bed on a full stomach. Assisting the body in its effort to expel toxins from the body is done through cleansing the colon, the liver, the kidneys, the skin, the lymph, and the blood. You may need herbs to assist in the effort.

“The only hope of better things is in the education of the people in right principles. Let physicians teach the people that restorative power is not in drugs, but in nature. Disease is an effort of nature to free the system from conditions that result from a violation of the laws of health.  In case of sickness, the cause should be ascertained. Unhealthful conditions should be changed, wrong habits corrected. Then nature is to be assisted in her effort to expel impurities and to re-establish right conditions in the system.” {MH 127.1}
