The most misunderstood scripture in the body – by pastor shelem flemons

In the worship message, Pastor Flemons discussed Romans 7:18.

Romans 7:18 For I know that in me (that is, in my flesh,) dwelleth no good thing: for to will is present with me; but how to perform that which is good I find not.

The Apostle Paul, who wrote most of the Bible surely learned “how to perform that which is good.” If he did not, we should all abandon Christianity. This verse is misunderstood and the death body explains it. Listen to the message and be blessed.

Self control is synonymous with Bible temperance. It means abstaining from the harmful and doing in moderation that which is good. Hear this message and learn these wonderful steps.

  1. Do not use tobacco or nicotine in any form.
  2. Do not drink alcoholic beverages or ingest alcohol in any form.
  3. Do not drink coffee or tea even though it may be decaffeinated.  This does not refer to herbal tea that has no caffeine in it.
  4. Do not overwork.
  5. Do not overeat.  You should leave the table feeling as though you can still eat more, but you should feel satisfied.  IF YOU FEEL STUFFED, YOU HAVE EATEN TOO MUCH!
  6. Cover your limbs as you do the trunk of your body in order to equalize circulation.  In other words, exposing your legs and arms hinders the proper circulation of blood.
  7. Do not study excessively or do excessive sedentary work, especially at the expense of proper exercise.
  8. If you are married, be faithful to your spouse and be temperate in your intimate marital relationships.
  9. If unmarried, abstain from intimate relationships that God intended only for the marriage commitment.
  10. Do not use drugs in any form.
  11. Replace television watching with more wholesome activities.  Do not look at or listen to anything that will suggest impure thoughts.
  12. Do not wear tight fitting clothing.  This applies to men and women.  Suspend clothing from the shoulders using suspenders instead of belts (men) or jumpers and dresses (women).
  13. Replace competitive activities with useful physical labor that uplifts your fellowman and leaves you with a positive sense of accomplishment.

Power of Prayer by Ellen G.White

Ch. 28 – Be Much in Secret Prayer – Scripture Text: Psalms 91:1

“Amid the perils of these last days, the only safety of the youth lies in ever-increasing watchfulness and prayer. The youth who finds his joy in reading the word of God, and in the hour of prayer, will be constantly refreshed by drafts from the fountain of life. He will attain a height of moral excellence and a breadth of thought of which others cannot conceive. Communion with God encourages good thoughts, noble aspirations, clear perceptions of truth, and lofty purposes of action. Those who thus connect themselves with God are acknowledged by Him as His sons and daughters. They are constantly reaching higher and still higher, obtaining clearer views of God and of eternity, until the Lord makes them channels of light and wisdom to the world.”

“But prayer is not understood as it should be. Our prayers are not to inform God of something He does not know. The Lord is acquainted with the secrets of every soul. Our prayers need not be long and loud. God reads the hidden thoughts. We may pray in secret, and He who sees in secret will hear, and will reward us openly. { MYP 247.2}
The prayers that are offered to God to tell Him of all our wretchedness, when we do not feel wretched at all, are the prayers of hypocrisy. It is the contrite prayer that the Lord regards.”

“For thus saith the high and lofty One that inhabiteth eternity, whose name is Holy; I dwell in the high and holy place, and with him also that is of a contrite and humble spirit, to revive the spirit of the humble, and to revive the heart of the contrite ones.”
“Prayer is not intended to work any change in God; it brings us into harmony with God. It does not take the place of duty. Prayer offered ever so often and ever so earnestly will never be accepted by God in the place of our tithe. Prayer will not pay our debts to God…. ” Messages to Young People, p 247, 248
