Romans 7:1-5 by pastor Shelem Flemons

According to the apostle Peter, Paul wrote some things hard to understand.

2Pet. 3:16 As also in all his epistles, speaking in them of these things; in which are some things hard to be understood, which they that are unlearned and unstable wrest, as they do also the other scriptures, unto their own destruction.

This is true of Romans chapter 7. Paul used what we would call “deep analogies.” He compared the drudgery of trying to obey without surrender to the drudgery of performing wifely duties even though they are unpleasant. In both scenarios, there must be obedience to the law of God.

Then Paul tell us that if the husband dies, the law no obligates a wife until she is married to another. When the Christian dies to self after being converted by the acceptance of the death of Christ for his or her sins, the law that it was impossible to keep in one’s own strength is now kept as Christ abides in the Christian through His Holy Spirit. When we are converted, we are as it were, married to Christ. Just as a second marriage is often more pleasant than the first, our new relationship with Christ is full of joy.

Rom. 7:1   Know ye not, brethren, (for I speak to them that know the law,) how that the law hath dominion over a man as long as he liveth?  2 For the woman which hath an husband is bound by the law to her husband so long as he liveth; but if the husband be dead, she is loosed from the law of her husband.  3 So then if, while her husband liveth, she be married to another man, she shall be called an adulteress: but if her husband be dead, she is free from that law; so that she is no adulteress, though she be married to another man.  4 Wherefore, my brethren, ye also are become dead to the law by the body of Christ; that ye should be married to another, even to him who is raised from the dead, that we should bring forth fruit unto God.  5 For when we were in the flesh, the motions of sins, which were by the law, did work in our members to bring forth fruit unto death.

the “H” in refreshing by pastor shelem flemons, a doctor of biblical wellness.

  1. Drink distilled water or some other soft, pure water.
  2. To determine your water intake, divide your weight by two.  This is the number of ounces of water you should drink everyday.  Increase this amount if needed to make your urine clear.
  3. Do not drink with your meals.
  4. Do not drink within one hour before and approximately one hour after each meal.
  5. Upon arising, drink sixteen ounces of warm lemon water.  Squeeze one lemon into sixteen ounces of warmed distilled water to make the lemon water.
  6. Do not drink large amounts of water at one time.  Drink your quota of water throughout the day.
  7. If herbal tea is a part of your life-style regimen, you may substitute the herbal tea as a part of your water intake as long as the tea is not sweetened.
  8. Do not gulp the water down fast.
  9. Do not drink water that is too cold or too hot.

Power of Prayer by Ellen G.White

Ch. 28 – Be Much in Secret Prayer – Scripture Text: Psalms 91:1

“The very beginning of the evil was a neglect of watchfulness and secret prayer, then came a neglect of other religious duties, and thus the way was opened for all the sins that followed. Every Christian will be assailed by the allurements of the world, the clamors of the carnal nature, and the direct temptations of Satan. No one is safe. No matter what our experience has been, no matter how high our station, we need to watch and pray continually. We must be daily controlled by the Spirit of God or we are controlled by Satan.” Testimonies for the Church, Vol. 5, p 102

“The idea is to have a general high time. Their amusements commence in folly and end in vanity. Our gatherings should be so conducted, and we should so conduct ourselves, that when we return to our homes we can have a conscience void of offense toward God and man; a consciousness that we have not wounded or injured in any manner those with whom we have been associated, or had an injurious influence over them.
The natural mind leans toward pleasure and self-gratification. It is Satan’s policy to manufacture an abundance of this. He seeks to fill the minds of men with a desire for worldly amusement, that they may have no time to ask themselves the question, How is it with my soul? The love of pleasure is infectious. Given up to this, the mind hurries from one point to another, ever seeking for some amusement. Obedience to the law of God counteracts this inclination and builds barriers against ungodliness.” Counsels to Parents, Teachers, and Students, p 336

“Our Creator demands our supreme devotion, our first allegiance. Anything which tends to abate our love for God, or to interfere with the service due Him, becomes thereby an idol. With some their lands, their houses, their merchandise, are the idols. Business enterprises are prosecuted with zeal and energy, while the service of God is made a secondary consideration. Family worship is neglected, secret prayer forgotten. Many claim to deal justly with their fellow-men, and seem to feel that in so doing they discharge their whole duty. But it is not enough to keep the last six commandments of the Decalogue. We are to love the Lord our God with all the heart. Nothing short of obedience to every precept … can satisfy the claims of the divine law.” Sons and Daughters of God, p 57
