Words of Encouragement
Romans 8:32 He that spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not with him also freely give us all things?
Psalm 94:22 But the LORD is my defence; and my God is the rock of my refuge.

For Heaven’s Sake…
When you are faced with your own deficiencies and you have a willing mind to do the right thing, God accepts your willingness and makes up for your deficiencies. There is power in your will.
2 Corinthians 8:12 For if there be first a willing mind, it is accepted according to that a man hath, and not according to that he hath not.
“God can save from the guttermost to the uttermost,” says Pastor Flemons. But first, we must simply be willing. The problem is that a lot of people are not willing. If we are not willing, nothing can happen for us. “A man convinced against his will is of the same opinion still,” says Pastor Flemons.
You may not feel as though you have the strength to do what is necessary for victory. But the gospel does two things: God does for us what we could not do for ourselves. And He does in us what we could not do by ourselves. Described another way, these two things are justification and sanctification.
Here is how it happens:
“In the work of redemption there is no compulsion. No external force is employed. Under the influence of the Spirit of God, man is left free to choose whom he will serve. In the change that takes place when the soul surrenders to Christ, there is the highest sense of freedom. The expulsion of sin is the act of the soul itself. True, we have no power to free ourselves from Satan’s control; but when we desire to be set free from sin, and in our great need cry out for a power out of and above ourselves, the powers of the soul are imbued with the divine energy of the Holy Spirit, and they obey the dictates of the will in fulfilling the will of God.” (Ellen G. White, Desire of Ages, p. 466, accessible at this link: http://www.whiteestate.org/books/da/da51.html.)
This is how to become one with Christ. This is how the power of the will becomes linked with divine power. This is how humanity borrows divinity for victory over sin.
For Health Sake…
This test for Daniel seemed all about the diet. But it ended in being so much more.
Daniel 1:8 But Daniel purposed in his heart that he would not defile himself with the portion of the king’s meat, nor with the wine which he drank: therefore he requested of the prince of the eunuchs that he might not defile himself.
Daniel 1:12 Prove thy servants, I beseech thee, ten days; and let them give us pulse to eat, and water to drink.
Pulse means legumes, such as peas and beans–“mostly vegetables, foods that grow from the ground,” says Pastor Flemons. Daniel requested a plant-based diet. He refused the royal table of flesh as food and wine as drink. Interestingly, it only took ten days to prove the values of both diets.
Daniel 1:17-20 As for these four children, God gave them knowledge and skill in all learning and wisdom: and Daniel had understanding in all visions and dreams. Now at the end of the days that the king had said he should bring them in, then the prince of the eunuchs brought them in before Nebuchadnezzar. And the king communed with them; and among them all was found none like Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah: therefore stood they before the king. And in all matters of wisdom and understanding, that the king enquired of them, he found them ten times better than all the magicians and astrologers that were in all his realm.
“For every day of their fast,” says Pastor Flemons, “God multiplied their blessings.”
A willing mind leads to a made-up mind. As a result, God caused Daniel to be elevated to heights beyond expectation. Many people die unnecessarily because their minds aren’t really made up to eat the way God designed as described in the Bible.
Times of Refreshing Wellness Retreats begin with ten days of feasting on vegetable juices that supply a high dose of nutrients to the body to rid the body of harmful toxins. Simultaneously, the nutrients nourish and strengthen the immune system, and the body begins to heal itself. In ten days, guests can see a change for better health. This improvement helps them graduate to a made-up mind to adopt a healthier lifestyle.
We must plan to eat well and be determined to have better health. But it all begins with a willing mind: a basic requirement of wellness retreat guests.
