Worship: A Pharisee Is Sad You See, Part 3 / Wellness: How to Make Vegetable Juice Palatable

Worship: For Heaven’s Sake
“Pharisees will drive you out of the church,” says Pastor Flemons. Confessing to having been a Pharisee himself, Pastor Flemons says that he wants to help save other Pharisees, although he realizes that it is a goal that is extremely difficult.

Pharisees are self-deceived, self-righteous, self-proclaimed Christians that push doctrine to the extent of capital punishment for the erring (thinking they are doing God a favor). Yet they fail to realize when they themselves are in error.

Pastor Flemons says that a Pharisee would rather see you punished and do it themselves until you are crushed to death than help you be restored to God. They think it their duty to place a heavy burden upon the erring. In this sense, a Pharisee is more strict than God Himself.

The Apostle Paul, who was once a Pharisee in the strictest sense, encouraged Christians to restore one who has been overcome by weakness. It is to be done with a spirit of meekness, as though it were you who had succumbed to temptation. In this way, he says that we bear another’s burdens and so fulfill the law of Christ. (Read Galatians 6:1-3.)

[For further details, please read Matthew 23:4; Matthew 11:28, 29; Gand listen to the recording to hear the commentary of Pastor Flemons, who sang “We Are One in the Spirit.”]

Wellness: For Health’s Sake  Shelem Flemons, a doctor of biblical wellness, gave a brief list of great juicers, discussed why he has juiced for more than 20 years, and provided a sure way to make vegetable juice very palatable. As a general rule, he says that you can simply add a Granny Smith apple, a lemon or lime, and ginger.

The Granny Smith apple has both a sweetness and tartness that adds a wonderful flavor to green drinks. He says that it is safe for diabetics, because of its low sugar content. Juice the whole apple, he says. But you need only the juice of half a lemon or lime. However, ginger root, which can be juiced just like the apple, must be measured by the chunks and sized according to the amount of juice to which it is being added.

(For further details, please listen to the recording.)

Words of Encouragement

1 Samuel 3:14 The iniquity of Eli’s house shall not be purged with sacrifice nor offering for ever.  (Also read 1 Samuel 2:22-36 Conflict and Courage for May 17, CC 143.)

Psalm 40:12, 13 For innumerable evils have compassed me about: mine iniquities have taken hold upon me, so that I am not able to look up; they are more than the hairs of mine head: therefore my heart faileth me. Be pleased, O Lord, to deliver me: O Lord, make haste to help me. (Also read With God at Dawn for May 17, WGD 139.)

Worship: The Work of a Prophet / Wellness: Eat Red Meat, Risk Becoming Dead Meat

Worship: For Heaven’s Sake
The state of the last days are perilous times, according to 2 Timothy 3:1-7. After a lengthy list of unsavory characteristics, the passage concludes in verse 7 that people would be “ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth.” It’s Pharisaism, says Pastor Flemons. He says, “God gave prophets to help us understand truth and to know God’s will in a more modern setting, always in harmony with His Word.”

After reading Ephesians 4:11-14, Pastor Flemons concluded that “God wants us to be unified” and “gives us the gift of prophecy to help unify us.” That is why He gives the gifts to the church. Instead, in practice we use our gifts to isolate people or to try to separate and divide. If only we were to appreciate the role of the prophets in helping us understand the will of God, we would be rightly guided. We would “be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive.”

“To disregard the testimony of the Spirit of prophecy would be like trying to explore the glories of the heavens without a telescope, or understand the beauty and wonders of the invisible things of creation without a microscope. Surely no real student would deprive himself of such valuable help. The ‘testimonies’ of God’s Spirit are even more needed to a deeper and more complete understanding of His Word.” (PTG)

[For further details, please read 2 Timothy 3:1-7; Ephesians 4:11-14; and “The Work of a Prophet” in Path to the Throne of God, by Sarah Elizabeth Peck. (PTG 218 original; PTG 295 latest edition; PTG 164 online.) Also, listen to the recording to hear the commentary of Pastor Flemons, who sang Hymn 483, “I Need Thee Every Hour.”]

Wellness: For Health’s Sake  After his warning against eating chicken, Shelem Flemons, a doctor of biblical wellness, says that he couldn’t leave out those who eat red meat. Eating red meat, he says, “increases your chance of becoming dead meat.”

A plantbasednews.org article laid the basis of his wellness segment. Among environmental charges, the article claims that red meat is as carcinogenic as asbestos and arsenic. It also claims that eating red meat can increase the risk of diabetes. Topping their list, however, is the finding that eating red meat increases the risk of death sooner than those who eat plant-based protein. The finding was through  a study from Harvard School of Public Health.

(For further details, please listen to the recording and read the full article titled “6 Terrifying Facts That Will Make You Never Want To Eat Red Meat Again.”)

Sharing and Caring Time Sis. Maria shared the portion of Chapter 6, “The Prayer of Faith,” from the book Prayer by Ellen G. White. The portion is titled “Earnest Prayer Will Baffle Satan’s Strongest Efforts” can be found on page 21. Pastor Flemons responded to a question from Sis. Chester regarding a passage in Luke 6 listing the names of Christ’s disciples, which prompted a discussion about Matthias, who was chosen to replace Judas (Acts 1:15-26), and Paul, who also became an apostle.

Special Prayer  Please include in your prayers Listener 1513, who made no special request, and FB viewer Janica Jones, who also did not specify her request. Pray for Sis. David, who will be turning 80 Sunday, May 12, and who will be celebrating with a special worship service May 19. Sis. Chester asks our prayers that she hungers and thirsts after righteousness and be filled with God’s Spirit.

Worship: Organization of the Christian Church / Wellness: Most People Are Acidic

Worship: For Heaven’s Sake  Jesus ordained twelve disciples and sent them forth to preach. This was the beginning of the Christian church. The act was a protest against arbitrary authority, like the protest of the princes at the beginning of Protestantism, says Pastor Flemons, who shared pertinent Bible texts and this reading from the Spirit of Prophecy.

“It was at the ordination of the Twelve that the first step was taken in the organization of the church that after Christ’s departure was to carry on His work on the earth. Of this ordination the record says, ‘He goeth up into a mountain, and calleth unto Him whom He would: and they came unto Him. And He ordained twelve, that they should be with Him, and that He might send them forth to preach.’ Mark 3:13, 14.” {AA 18.1}

“And it came to pass, that a whole year they assembled themselves with the church, and taught much people. And the disciples were called Christians first in Antioch” (Acts 11:26).

[For additional details, please read Acts of the Apostles, by Ellen G. White, AA 18; Mark 3:14; Mark 14:22-25; Acts 2:1, as well as the Great Controversy, by Ellen G. White, Chapter 11, “Protest of the Princes”(GC 197); and “Organization of the Christian Church” in Path to the Throne of God, by Sarah Elizabeth Peck. (PTG 206 original. PTG 279 latest edition. Wellness: For Health’s Sake  Shelem Flemons, a doctor of biblical wellness, says that we need to watch what we eat and how we live, because it all affects the health of our blood. The health of the blood is measured on a pH scale (from zero to 14), where its optimum is at about 7.2 to 7.5, he says. Below that range is acidic. Above it is more alkaline. Both extremes are deadly.

Eating the flesh of animals and animal products, like eggs and dairy products, as well as eating too much processed food, he says, is the best way to be acidic. Cancer is a disease of acidity. It is fueled by lactate: that is, sugar fermented by the body. In fact, almost every disease that we know of, he says, is a disease of acidity.

Battery acid is extremely acidic. Ammonia and bleach are extremely alkaline, says Pastor Flemons. Both extremes, if too much is ingested, can be fatal, he says. When you are sick, you are acidic. And when you are fine, you are alkaline, he says.

Because most people are dehydrated, they are automatically acidic. Pure distilled water is a perfect 7.0. Therefore, just by drinking sufficient water can bring you to 7.0. Eating fresh fruits and vegetables tend to keep you at a normal range of alkalinity, says Pastor Flemons. It is best to build your meals around salads, whether it’s the fruit meal or vegetable meal. They should not be mixed. Based on Genesis 1:29, it is God’s dietary plan for the human body, along with nuts and grains. Pastor Flemons briefly discussed which grain is the best for alkalinity; and he compared the lifespans of the antediluvians with postdiluvians.

(For those details and more, please listen to the recording and compare for yourself the lifespan of preflood generations to those afterward, who included meat in their diet. Read Genesis 5 and then Genesis 11, as well as Genesis 25:7.)

Sharing Time  One listener  questioned the theology of the evangelicals reaching back to embrace Israel as the center of all things. He also asked about the importance of knowing which of the various tribes of Israel to which we belong, based on our characteristics. Our “mother in Israel” commented on the topic as well.

Special Prayer  Please include in your prayers listener 1513, who made no request, and Pastor Rupert Balfour, who is recovering from two emergency brain surgeries.

Psalm 106:32, 33  They angered him at the waters of Meribah, and it went ill with Moses on their account; for they made his spirit bitter, and he spoke words that were rash. (Also read Numbers 20:1-13 and Conflict and Courage for April 14, CC 110.)

Worship: Purpose of the Hebrew Church / Wellness: Antioxidants

Worship: For Heaven’s Sake  God has given to His church in every generation the “special assignment” of “carrying the everlasting gospel to the world. The task, the high and holy privilege, of the Hebrew church was to teach the idolatrous nations around them of the true and living God that inhabiteth eternity, and of the holy and just and eternal character of His law, His oracle.”

“. . .The Israelites had seen the utter helplessness of false gods; they had experienced the mighty power of the true God, the One who had delivered them in time of need. At Sinai they had witnessed His glory in the proclamation of His law, the fourth commandment of which identifies Him as the true God, the Creator. All this was intended to help them realize the importance and the seriousness of their mission.”

Furthermore, “they were given. . .Canaan, the cross roads of the nations, where they would be constantly in touch with those whom they were to help. All through the twenty-five hundred years of the supremacy of the Hebrew church, special emphasis was placed upon the Sabbath of God’s law, as evidence that He who created the world is the only true God, and that therefore heart obedience to His law is a necessary passport to heaven. The same eternal passport will be required of every succeeding generation of the church, for only ‘they that do His commandments. . .may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the City.’ Rev. 22:14.” PTG

[For additional details, please read Exodus 12:12; Deuteronomy 4:6; Exodus 16; COL 290; and “The Mission of the Hebrew Church” in Path to the Throne of God, by Sarah Elizabeth Peck. Worship: For Health’s Sake  Shelem Flemons, a doctor of biblical wellness, says that antioxidants get rid of free radicals. The question “What Do Antioxidants Do?” got answered in an article bearing the same title. It states that antioxidants “neutralize free radicals, preventing them from damaging the body. They often act by donating electrons to free radicals, making them more stable. They also can degrade free radicals, rendering them harmless.”

According to the UniversityHealthNews.com article, free radicals are “highly unstable molecules produced naturally as a byproduct of chemical reactions in our cells and also when we are exposed to toxins. Free radicals are formed when the food we eat is converted into energy, when we exercise, and when we are exposed to things like sunlight, cigarette smoke, radiation, or pollution.”

It is when the body becomes overwhelmed with free radicals that DNA can become damaged and disease like cancer can develop. Also cellular walls can become compromised and allow entrance to extracellular substances. Antioxidants are the answer.

Foods high in antioxidants include fresh berries, kale and other green leafy vegetables, bell peppers, sunflower seeds, artichokes, pomegranates, and nuts. Although the article listed green tea and dark chocolate, Pastor Flemons warns against consuming them because they also contain caffeine.

(For further details, please listen to the recording and read the article in full here.)

Words of Encouragement

Genesis 24:7  The Lord God of heaven, which took me from my father’s house, and from the land of my kindred, and which spake unto me, and that sware unto me, saying, Unto thy seed will I give this land; he shall send his angel before thee, and thou shalt take a wife unto my son from thence. (Also read Conflict and Courage, CC 58.)
