Worship: A Pharisee Is Sad You See, Part 2 / Wellness: Licorice Root and DGL

Worship: For Heaven’s Sake
“Pharisees will drive you out of the church,” says Pastor Flemons. Confessing to having been a Pharisee himself, Pastor Flemons says that Pharisees lack the love that resides in the hearts of true disciples of Christ. Pharisees are self-righteous, self-proclaimed Christians that push doctrine to the extent of capital punishment for the erring (thinking they are doing God a favor), but fail to realize when they themselves are in error. Even so, Pastor Flemons decided to provide this short series in an attempt to save a Pharisee.

They sit in the seat of Moses. They know the law. They know current events in light of prophecy and promote Present Truth. “Do what they say, but don’t act like they act,” says Pastor Flemons. “They understand the right doctrine, but they don’t know how to treat people,” he says. They may backbite, do evil to their neighbors, even take up a reproach against their neighbors. And yet they trust in their own opinions and are locked in to them. They are so proud of themselves that most of them can never be corrected. They can only see your faults, never their own. In this way, they lock themselves into a lost situation and lose out on salvation.

But God wants to save us all. And He wants to save a Pharisee, like the Apostle Paul, who was converted to Christianity, while he was traveling to Damascus to kill Christians that he thought were wrong and deserving of death.

[For further details, please read Matthew 23:1-3; Psalm 15; John 13:35; Acts 9; and listen to the recording to hear the commentary of Pastor Flemons, who sang Hymn 88, I Sing the Mighty Power of God.”]

Wellness: For Health’s Sake  Shelem Flemons, a doctor of biblical wellness, says that licorice is a wonderful God-given herb. It is a very sweet herb that is good for a lot of conditions, including low blood sugar, low blood pressure, hormonal issues, the adrenal glands, peptic ulcers, and acid reflux.

However, licorice has a substance that makes taking licorice prohibitive during pregnancy. That is because it has been found to cause problems for the child. It has been linked to ADHD and other developmental issues, including a low IQ.

Therefore DGL, Deglycyrrhizinated Licorice, is recommended for its safety. DGL is a type of licorice that has had that substance (glycyrrizin) removed. Yet, it maintains its effectiveness. For instance, it increases the mucus lining in the stomach. That is a good thing. This way, it guards against excess acids, while it heals the stomach of ulcers. It helps eliminate the H. pylori bacteria, which is the main cause of stomach cancer, peptic ulcers and related issues, says Pastor Flemons. He says that you can get it usually in the form of chewable tablets. He added that it is usually available at any health food store and is relatively inexpensive.

Sharing and Caring Time Sis. Maria read three passages from “When Much Prayer Is Needed,” Chapter 8, in the book Power of Prayer, by Ellen G. White. They tell how to be fitted for usefulness–how we can achieve higher Christian attainments, including how to turn aside the attacks of the devil; how we must deal gently with others, not try to humble others but humble ourselves instead; and how important it is to remain active in order for God to send His inspiration to us. (These passages are hyperlinked to other sources for the same quote.)

Pastor Flemons responded to a question about the pH level with respect to the baking soda/molasses protocol. Sis. Michelle praised God for being accepted into a work program for seniors.

Special Prayer  Please include in your prayers Listener 3039, Sis. Rudder, who asks that we pray for her as she is going through a great challenge now. She needs God’s direction, wisdom and healing. And she is asking for strength and courage for her children.

Pray that Sis. Michelle will be able to successfully get out of debt and that God will bless her work with the senior program.

Pray for complete healing without surgery for Sis. Odessa and for her finances and her ministry in the community.

Also pray for Alison, who is having a special challenge this morning. And remember to pray for all the unspoken prayer requests of our hearts. Thank you.
