Worship: Hungering, Thirsting for Righteousness / Wellness: Why God Isn’t Primarily Healing Instantly Today

Worship: For Heaven’s Sake  If you feel no need, you cannot hunger or thirst for righteousness. Neither can you be filled with it, regardless of whatever else you may do. (Read more below.)

Wellness: For Health’s Sake  There was a time when the only miracles of instant healing being done were those of God. But with time, that changed, says Pastor Flemons, a doctor of biblical wellness and naturopathy.  (Read more below.)

Words of Encouragement

Isaiah 55:11  So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it.

Lamentations 3:22-23   It is of the LORD’s mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not. They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness.

For Heaven’s Sake…

The only way of staying in Christ, of being like Him, is by staying in the Word, says Pastor Flemons. And that won’t happen unless we desire sincerely to be filled and remain in communion with God. No amount of self-inflicted pain or penance will accomplish what hungering and thirsting for righteousness will.

Inspired commentary on this verse was recorded in the book Thoughts From the Mount of Blessing, by Ellen G. White:

“Not by painful struggles or wearisome toil, not by gift or sacrifice, is righteousness obtained; but it is freely given to every soul who hungers and thirsts to receive it. “Ho, every one that thirsteth, come ye to the waters, and he that hath no money; come ye, buy, and eat, … without money and without price.” “Their righteousness is of Me, saith the Lord,” and, “This is His name whereby He shall be called, The Lord Our Righteousness.” Isaiah 55:1; 54:17; Jeremiah 23:6. (MB 18.2)

“No human agent can supply that which will satisfy the hunger and thirst of the soul. But Jesus says, “Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear My voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with Me.” “I am the bread of life: he that cometh to Me shall never hunger; and he that believeth on Me shall never thirst.” Revelation 3:20; John 6:35. (MB 18.3)

“As we need food to sustain our physical strength, so do we need Christ, the Bread from heaven, to sustain spiritual life and impart strength to work the works of God. As the body is continually receiving the nourishment that sustains life and vigor, so the soul must be constantly communing with Christ, submitting to Him and depending wholly upon Him.” (MB 19.1)

If we would dedicate ourselves to reading more of God’s word, praying more, and serving God more, we would not be overcome during times of trial under fire, nor would we become discouraged, says Pastor Flemons.

For Health’s Sake…

Satan was not allowed to do miracles during the time Christ regularly performed miracles of healing, says Pastor Flemons. He referred to John 9:16; John 9:30-33; and John 10:19-21. But Christ warned in Matthew 24:24 that false Christs and prophets would in time do “great signs and wonders” and so mimic the miracles of Christ that they would deceive even God’s elect, if that were possible. We are now seeing such “miracles.” They are nearly everywhere.

2 Corinthians 11:14-16  And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light. Therefore it is no great thing if his ministers also be transformed as the ministers of righteousness; whose end shall be according to their works.

Revelation 16:14  For they are the spirits of devils, working miracles, which go forth unto the kings of the earth and of the whole world, to gather them to the battle of that great day of God Almighty.

This does not mean that God won’t heal instantly. That is still His prerogative. God continues to do amazing things in the lives of believers. Pastor Flemons testified to that in recounting victories over disease during Times of Refreshing wellness retreats.
