Worship: Treasures New and Old / Wellness: The REFRESHING Way

Worship: For Heaven’s Sake When you study the Bible, first pray that God will press home the truth to your heart. That was the prayer of Pastor Flemons at the outset of the segment. Then he shared several readings that describe the spiritual process of searching for the hidden treasures of truth and what is to be the sure reward.

“In the Bible the truth is compared to treasure hid in a field, the which, when a man hath found, he hideth; and for joy thereof goeth and selleth all that he hath, and buyeth that field. He desires the privilege of searching every part of the field, that he may make himself the possessor of all its treasures. I call upon my brethren in the name of the Lord to sink the shaft deep into the mines of truth.—Manuscript 35, 1901. (“Consumers, but not Producers, April 25, 1901.) {1MR 38.2}

“So in searching the field and digging for the precious jewels of truth, hidden treasures are discerned. Unexpectedly we find precious ore that is to be gathered and treasured. And the search is to be continued. Hitherto very much of the treasure found has lain near the surface, and was easily obtained. When the search is properly conducted every effort is made to keep a pure understanding and heart. When the mind is kept open and is constantly searching the field of revelation, we shall find rich deposits of truth. Old truths will be revealed in new aspects, and truths will appear which have been overlooked in the search.”—Manuscript 75, 1897, 3. (“The Position God’s People Should Occupy, 1897.)  {1MR 37.4}

“There is nothing as beautiful as the truth,” says Pastor Flemons. However, he was quick to caution that every new gem of truth be found to be in harmony with old truths, or else discarded.

[For further details, read Matthew 13:52; Jeremiah 6:16; 1 John 5:4; 1 MR 37.4; 1MR 38.1; 1 MR 38.2; 1 MR 33.4. Also listen to the recording to hear the commentary of Pastor Flemons, who sang Hymn 27, “Give Me the Bible.”]

Wellness: For Health’s Sake The REFRESHING Way is an easy guide for changing your lifestyle. Shelem Flemons, a doctor of biblical wellness, explained the details of the acronym: REFRESHING. The R is for Rely on God. The E is for Eat healthy. The F is for Fresh air. The second R is for Rest. The E is for Exercise. The S is for Self-Control. The H is for H2O – Water. The I is for In the sun. The N is for Never give up. And the G is for Give to others.

If you follow the REFRESHING Way guidelines, you will reduce stress by relying on God. You will adopt a totally plant-based diet, get fresh air throughout every day, and rest by 9:30 at least most nights, if not every night. You will exercise daily, be temperate in all things, and avoid all harmful things. You will drink adequate amounts of water and/or unsweetened herbal teas, and get the sunlight your body requires daily. Besides all these, you will be determined to stay the course and to help others do the same.

Pastor Flemons advised that no herbal remedy or drug is a panacea. He says that there must also be a change in the lifestyle.

Worship: The Character and Aims of the Papacy, Pt 6 / Wellness: Juice Feasting for Insomnia

Worship: For Heaven’s Sake God winks at ignorant sins, says Pastor Flemons. But He won’t wink at willful ignorance.

“It is true that there are real Christians in the Roman Catholic communion. Thousands in that church are serving God according to the best light they have. They are not allowed access to his Word, and therefore they do not discern the truth. They have never seen the contrast between a living heart-service and a round of mere forms and ceremonies. God looks with pitying tenderness upon these souls, educated as they are in a faith that is delusive and unsatisfying. He will cause rays of light to penetrate the dense darkness that surrounds them. He will reveal to them the truth, as it is in Jesus, and many will yet take their position with his people.” {GC88 565.2}

“God will not condemn any at the judgment because they honestly believed a lie, or conscientiously cherished error; but it will be because they neglected the opportunities of making themselves acquainted with truth. The infidel will be condemned, not because he was an infidel, but because he did not take advantage of the means God has placed within his reach to enable him to become a Christian.” {TM 437.1}

When we obey God because we love Him, then we are accepted of God.

[For further details, read Ellen G. White’s 1888 edition of The Great Controversy, Chapter 35: “The Character and Aims of the Papacy,” GC88 563; Acts 17:30, 31; Ellen G. White’s Testimonies to Ministers and Gospel Workers, TM 437.1. Also, listen to the recording to hear the commentary of Pastor Flemons, who sang Hymn 202, “Hail Him the King of Glory.”]

Wellness: For Health’s Sake Shelem Flemons, a doctor of biblical wellness, says that when you have insomnia, go on a juice fast. Feast on juice for at least three days. Better yet, feast for seven to ten days. Forty-eight ounces (that is, 3 16-oz glasses) of juice daily will flush out toxins. That’s because digestion has been relaxed and the body is in a cleansing mode. Therefore, the body will correct its imbalances. And you will sleep well.

Dietary changes are essential. Adopt a plant-based diet with less refined and junk foods. If you must, include a fruit-only smoothie during your juice feast. In fact, Pastor Flemons recommends that you add to your smoothie our AAA Supertonic Superfood. It contains powerful herbs, like Moringa, Mangosteen, Noni, Wheatgrass, Rice Bran, Astragalus, Spirulina, Peppermint, Elutherococcus, Alfalfa, Echinacea, Acai Berry, Barley Grass, Bee Pollen, and two options: Stevia and Ginseng. These herbs “build your immune system, keep your blood sugar normal, help you deal with stress, and give you energy on a cellular level.”

Sharing and Caring Time Sis. Maria encouraged listeners with Proverbs 8:17. She also read Chapter 12, “Seeking God in Prayer,” in the book Power of Prayer, a compilation of Ellen G. White’s statements on prayer, p. 31.

Pastor Flemons, in response to a question, says that you can get rid of puffy eyes with a cucumber slice over each eye. He also discussed when you should lend money and what can be done when you have made a loan to a Christian brother or sister and cannot get repaid.

Special Prayer  Please include in your prayers today Listener 3116, who asks that God will continue to surround us with His peace, power, Presence and protection. Please pray for her daughter, Portia; her family; the TORSOE family; and the ministry. She wants the world to see Jesus in her: through her work and in her life.

Please pray for Sis. Annette.

Please pray for Sis. Angela’s visit with family, for her work situation, and for her interview process.

Sis. Michelle has asked that we pray for Johnnie Mae for healing from a second bout of breast cancer and for Emily Carpenter, who crushed a vertebrae in her back a few days ago.

Words of Encouragement

2 Samuel 6:6, 7 Uzzah put forth his hand to the ark of God, and took hold of it; for the oxen shook it. And the anger of the Lord was kindled against Uzzah, and God smote him there for his error. (Also read 2 Samuel 6:1-11 Conflict and Courage for June 19, CC 176.)

Psalm 1:3 And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.  (Also read With God at Dawn for June 19, WGD 172.)

Worship: Organization of the Remnant Church / Wellness: Herbs for Allergies

Worship: For Heaven’s Sake The power of God was manifest in every generation of organizing His church. “The power of God shook Mount Sinai,” when the Hebrew church was organized. It was the first generation. At the organization of the Christian church (the second generation), the power of God was manifest in the preaching of the gospel of Jesus Christ in every language of those present for Pentecost in Jerusalem. It was miraculous in that the speakers were never trained in the languages heard.

No less was the power of God visible in the organization of the third generation: that of the Remnant church. “During the approximately ten years immediately preceding the ushering in of the Remnant church,” like trumpets heralding the coming King, the world was warned of His Judgment. “Godly men in practically all parts of the civilized world” “stirred all Christendom as it had not been stirred since the days of the apostles.” They proclaimed Revelation 14:6 and Amos 4:12: “The hour of His Judgment is come;” “Prepare to meet thy God, O Israel.” The historic era is known as the Great Awakening.

A full chapter is devoted to the movement in the book The Great Controversy, by Ellen G. White. Pastor Flemons read a portion of Chapter 20, “A Great Religious Awakening.” He also read an excerpt from “The First Great Awakening,” a TeacherServe essay, authored by Christine Leigh Heyrman and published by the National Humanities Center.

[For more details, please read Exodus 19:16-20; Acts 2:1-4; The Great Controversy, by Ellen G. White (GC 355); Heyrman, Christine Leigh. “The First Great Awakening.” Divining America, TeacherServe©. Wellness: For Health’s Sake  Shelem Flemons, a doctor of biblical wellness, says that herbs can help with your allergies. Butterbur tops the list, according to Josh Axe, author of the U.S. News & World Report article that Pastor Flemons shared with listeners. Garlic was next, followed by stinging nettle leaf, rosemary, and turmeric.

Well respected for its effectiveness against migraines, butterbur has been found to work “just as well as” Zyrtec for allergies, without the negative side effects of antihistamines. Just as garlic is “a must in homemade tomato sauce,” it is a must in “any wellness regimen.” This is especially true in dealing with allergies, since garlic acts as a natural antihistamine. The use of stinging nettle leaf for its medicinal value has been dated back to ancient Greece. Studies have now shown that stinging nettle leaf has “excellent anti-inflammatory abilities” that “can actually inhibit multiple inflammatory events.” Only recently has rosemary been found to have “both anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects.” The only caution is to take the supplement with food to avoid a stomachache. Since science has found “a seemingly endless list of turmeric health benefits that make this tasty spice just as effective as many pharmaceuticals – if not more so,” it is a natural aid in your fight against allergies.

Words of Encouragement

Proverbs 12:22  Lying lips are abomination to the Lord: but they that deal truly are his delight.  (Also read Joshua 9; Joshua 10; andConflict and Courage for April 26, CC 122.)

Psalm 35:23  Stir up thyself, and awake to my judgment, even unto my cause, my God and my Lord.   (Also read With God at Dawn for April 26, WGD 118.)

Worship: Naked and Guilty / Wellness: Dressed to Kill Yourself

Worship: For Heaven’s Sake  Dress reform follows talks by Pastor Flemons on a number of reforms instituted after 1798, when the Dark Ages ended. These reforms include the Bible, the Spirit of Prophecy, the Sanctuary, the Sabbath, Worship, Country Living, as well as Financial, Education, Home, Prophetic, Faith, Unity, and Health reforms in his series “Preparation for the Final Crisis,” which he says is “preparation for Heaven.”

There is symbolism in clothing and the lack thereof. We all know that. We see it all the time. But it first existed in the Garden of Eden in a way that still applies to all humanity today.

According to Genesis 3, Adam and Eve’s very first encounter with nakedness resulted because of sin. They were guilty of disobedience to God’s expressed will for their lives. Their nakedness pointed to their guilt of sin. They had joined a group of sinners: Satan and the fallen angels. Their clothing signified it. And they were ashamed.

But before this, “A beautiful soft light, the light of God, enshrouded the holy pair. This robe of light was a symbol of their spiritual garments of heavenly innocence. Had they remained true to God it would ever have continued to enshroud them. But when sin entered, they severed their connection with God, and the light that had encircled them departed. Naked and ashamed, they tried to supply the place of the heavenly garments by sewing together fig leaves for a covering.” {COL 310.4}

But the aprons that they made, according to the Genesis 3 account, were inadequate. The aprons only partially covered and partially exposed the guilty pair. God had to sufficiently cover their nakedness with coats. Aprons versus coats: “There is a principle,” says Pastor Flemons. Nakedness still shows the guilt of sin.

[For additional details, please read Genesis 2:25; Genesis 3:7-11Revelation 3:17, 18; and Christ’s Object Lessons, by Ellen G. White, COL 310. Also, listen to the recording to hear the commentary of Pastor Flemons, who sang Hymn 298, “I Lay My Sins on Jesus.”]

Worship: For Health’s Sake  Shelem Flemons, a doctor of biblical wellness, continued his talk on being “dressed to kill” in a very real sense. Yes. You can be dressed to actually kill yourself. When you wear too-tight clothing, you risk getting pelvic diseases, he says. For women, this can mean fibroids, which are not deadly. But it can also lead to ovarian and uterine issues, including cancer. For men, this can mean prostate cancer.

Too-tight clothing prevents tissue fluids from flowing in or out of those areas as they normally would. Toxins are therefore contained, and fresh oxygenated blood is hindered. The results can be deadly.

If your clothing leaves an imprint on your skin, it is too tight. Clothing suspended from the shoulders are healthier than heavy clothing held to the body at the waist. Suspenders are better than belts.

“Loosen it up,” says Pastor Flemons. “Don’t wear it tight!”

Words of Encouragement

Leviticus 10:1  And Nadab and Abihu, the sons of Aaron, took either of them his censer, and put fire therein, and put incense thereon, and offered strange fire before the Lord, which he commanded them not. (Also read Conflict and Courage for April 4, CC 100.)

Matthew 11:28-30  Come unto me all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light. (Also read With God at Dawn for April 4, WGD 96.)

Worship: The Church at Smyrna / Wellness: Why You Shouldn’t Sleep Right After a Meal

Worship: For Heaven’s Sake  “Prosperity multiplies a mass of professors. Adversity purges them out of the church.” {4T 89.2} Smyrna, one of the seven churches addressed in Revelation, is one of only two of the seven that received no condemnation, says Pastor Flemons. That is because adversity, rather than purge them out of the church, revealed their genuine love for God. “Great numbers sealed their testimony with their blood. Noble and slave, rich and poor, learned and ignorant, were alike slain without mercy.”  GC88 39.2

“They were condemned as rebels against the empire, as foes of religion, and pests to society. Great numbers were thrown to wild beasts or burned alive in the amphitheaters. Some were crucified; others were covered with the skins of wild animals, and thrust into the arena to be torn by dogs. Their punishment was often made the chief entertainment at public fetes. Vast multitudes assembled to enjoy the sight, and greeted their dying agonies with laughter and applause.”  GC88 40.1

“Under the fiercest persecution, these witnesses for Jesus kept their faith unsullied. Though deprived of every comfort, shut away from the light of the sun, making their home in the dark but friendly bosom of the earth, they uttered no complaint. With words of faith, patience, and hope, they encouraged one another to endure privation and distress. The loss of every earthly blessing could not force them to renounce their belief in Christ. Trials and persecution were but steps bringing them nearer their rest and their reward.  GC88 41.1

Jesus had these words for Smyrna: “I know thy works, and tribulation, and poverty, (but thou art rich) and I know the blasphemy of them which say they are Jews, and are not, but are the synagogue of Satan. Fear none of those things which thou shalt suffer: behold, the devil shall cast some of you into prison, that ye may be tried; and ye shall have tribulation ten days: be thou faithful unto death, and I will give thee a crown of life.”

[For additional details, please read  Revelation 2:8-11; and read “Persecution in the First Centuries,” The Great Controversy 1888. Also, listen to the recording to hear the commentary of Pastor Flemons and hear him recite and sing Hymn 606, “Once to Every Man and Nation.”]

Worship: For Health’s Sake  Shelem Flemons, a doctor of biblical wellness, says you really don’t want to go to bed with undigested food on your stomach. When you wake up and feel as though a truck has run over you, it’s because your digestive system has been working and not resting all those hours you were sleeping.

The process of digestion requires energy. In fact, you naturally become drowsy after eating, because blood is drained from the brain to help with digestion. Therefore, “A light stroll is one of the best things you can do for your health,” after a meal, says Pastor Flemons. The stroll helps to equalize blood circulation to the brain.

Your final meal before bedtime must be completed five hours prior. Or it must be very light, like a fruit smoothie, so that digestion can be completed fairly quickly: say, within a couple of hours.

Words of Encouragement

John 3:36  He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life. (Also read Conflict and Courage, CC 71.)

Jeremiah 31:33  But this shall be the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel; After those days, saith the Lord, I will put my law in their inward parts, and write it in their hearts, and will be their God, and they shall be my people. (Also read With God at Dawn, WGD 67.)

Worship: Order in the Camp / Wellness: Bad Eating Habits

Worship: For Heaven’s Sake  Even if by nature you are not an organized person like Pastor Flemons confesses that he is, you may still bring your life into order, he says. You don’t have to allow depression to continue, because of the disorder of your space or time. For the Bible says that we should do all things “decently and in order.” (Read 1 Corinthians 14:40.)

Consider how God set things in order for the Israelites as soon as they left Egypt. There was a specific order of the tribes of Israelites around the sanctuary. It was for their training and discipline.

“Even before they left Egypt a temporary organization had been effected, and the people were arranged in companies, under appointed leaders. At Sinai the arrangements for organization were completed. The order so strikingly displayed in all the works of God was manifest in the Hebrew economy. God was the center of authority and government. Moses, as His representative, was to administer the laws in His name. Then came the council of seventy, then the priests and the princes, under these ‘captains over thousands, and captains over hundreds, and captains over fifties, and captains over tens’ (Numbers 11:16, 17; Deuteronomy 1:15), and, lastly, officers appointed for special duties. The camp was arranged in exact order, the tabernacle, the abiding place of God, in the midst, and around it the tents of the priests and the Levites. Outside of these each tribe encamped beside its own standard.” {Ed 37.4}

To bring your personal life into order, Pastor Flemons presented SPACE, a 5-point principle of organization. First, the S: Separate everything into piles. Don’t throw anything away yet. Just simply separate everything. This way you get to see what you really have, he says. That alone brings a sense of peace into your life. Do the same thing with time management. Simply write down what you need to do. Then group them. The P is for purge what is not needed. Do this also with time management. Some things don’t deserve your time. The A is for assigning things, as God assigned an exact place for everything in the sanctuary and every tribe camped around the sanctuary. Things in your home must have an assigned place, as things to do must have an assigned block of time. The C is for containing what has been assigned to a space or time period. Finally, the E: You must periodically evaluate your space and / or your schedule. Determine whether it is working out as is or whether you need to improve it in some way.

Worship: For Health’s Sake  Shelem Flemons, a doctor of biblical wellness, listed a few bad eating habits and their dangers. He says bad eating habits include overeating, eating between meals, drinking with meals, chewing gum and eating candy.

Overeating produces toxins and acids in the body that lead to gas. Your stomach can hold more than what it can handle. Therefore, don’t eat until you feel bloated.

Eating between meals prevents your digestive system from resting. It will cause constipation, indigestion, acid reflux, and flatulence, which is gas. It is best to leave five resting hours between meals. Smoothies are the exception.

Drinking with meals causes the digestive juices to be watered down so that proper digestion of the meal is impaired. Indigestion and gas are the result.

Chewing gum and eating candy between meals cause the digestive juices to be excreted for digestion. But because there is no food to be digested, only acids are left in the stomach and then the blood becomes acidic. These habits also force the system continue to work, rather than to rest as needed. If you want to chew gum or eat candy, it is best done nearest mealtime.

Words of Encouragement

Genesis 7:1 And the Lord said unto Noah, Come thou and all thy house into the ark; for thee have I seen righteous before me in this generation. (Also read Conflict and Courage, CC 39.)

John 15:9, 10  As the Father hath loved me, so have I loved you: continue ye in my love. If ye keep my commandments, ye shall abide in my love; even as I have kept my Father’s commandments, and abide in his love.(Also read With God at Dawn, WGD 35.)

Worship: Manna and Aaron’s Rod / Wellness: Frankincense and Cancer

Worship: For Heaven’s Sake  God always takes care of His people. That is evident in how God cared for the children of Israel during their journey through the desert wilderness after their miraculous release from Egypt. God Himself fed them, raining manna down from Heaven every day, except the seventh day–Sabbath. One day prior to Sabbath, called the Preparation Day, manna was rained down in a double portion for both Friday and Saturday. That story in Exodus 16 shows the “perpetuity of Sabbath,” says Pastor Flemons. And it removes “from all minds any groundless speculations by future generations as to how the vast multitude of Israel were fed during their forty years’ wandering in the wilderness, where no other food of any kind and no water (except from the rock) could be obtained. Num. 20:5.” (PTG)

The story of Aaron’s rod that budded, in Numbers 16, shows the authority of God, which He gives to His chosen against those in rebellion, as was Korah, Dathan, and Abiram. It is also representative of parental authority or any leadership role, especially the leadership of Christ.

“It seems that both the pot of manna and Aaron’s rod were kept in the ark during the forty years’ wandering of Israel. But when the ark was put into Solomon’s temple at the time of the dedication of the temple, nearly 500 years later, we are told that ‘there was nothing in the ark save the two tables of stone, which Moses put there at Horeb, when. . .the children of Israel. . .came out of the land of Egypt.” 1 Kings 8:9. (PTG)

[For additional details, please read Exodus 16 and Numbers 16, as well as “The Pot of Manna and Aaron’s Rod” in Path to the Throne of God, by Sarah Elizabeth Peck. (PTG 166 original. Wellness: For Health’s Sake  Shelem Flemons, a doctor of biblical wellness, shared a MedicalNewsToday.com article, which provides data for the potential use of frankincense for cancer. Primarily, it states that frankincense fights inflammation, “always a factor in cancer,” says Pastor Flemons. Also, there is evidence that frankincense kills breast cancer cells, disrupts the growth of future cancer cells, and has antitumor properties, while it is harmless to healthy cells.

In its powder form, it is called Boswellia, says Pastor Flemons, and can be taken in capsule form. Of course, Frankincense oil has an aroma that, when added to bath soaks, is relaxing to the nerves and produces restful sleep. It also can be used in lotions for skin care. In fact, according to the MedicalNewsToday article, it may help with other diseases as well, including rheumatoid arthritis, Crohn’s disease, bronchial asthma, and ulcerative colitis.

A DrAxe.com article was specific about ingesting the oil. “Add one to two drops of oil to eight ounces of water or to a tablespoon of honey for GI relief. If you’re going to ingest it orally, make sure it’s 100 percent pure oil; do not ingest fragrance or perfume oils.” Among other benefits, the article adds, “Due to its antiseptic properties, frankincense oil is a great addition to any oral hygiene regimen. . . . It can help prevent dental health issues like tooth decay, bad breath, cavities or oral infections. You can also consider making your own toothpaste by mixing frankincense oil with baking soda.”

Sharing Time  Several topics were briefly discussed when a listener asked questions like these: In the Book of Job, who were the sons of God? Before becoming Christians, are heathens and nonChristians considered sons of God? Is perfection possible, or will we be sinning until the day we die or until Jesus comes? Can frankincense be ingested? What is boswellia?

Words of Encouragement

Isaiah 59:19  So shall they fear the name of the LORD from the west, and his glory from the rising of the sun. When the enemy shall come in like a flood, the Spirit of the LORD shall lift up a standard against him.

Psalm 40:1, 2  I waited patiently for the LORD; and he inclined unto me, and heard my cry. He brought me up also out of an horrible pit, out of the miry clay, and set my feet upon a rock, and established my goings. (Also read ST October 8, 1896, par. 6.)
