Worship: Naked and Guilty / Wellness: Dressed to Kill Yourself

Worship: For Heaven’s Sake  Dress reform follows talks by Pastor Flemons on a number of reforms instituted after 1798, when the Dark Ages ended. These reforms include the Bible, the Spirit of Prophecy, the Sanctuary, the Sabbath, Worship, Country Living, as well as Financial, Education, Home, Prophetic, Faith, Unity, and Health reforms in his series “Preparation for the Final Crisis,” which he says is “preparation for Heaven.”

There is symbolism in clothing and the lack thereof. We all know that. We see it all the time. But it first existed in the Garden of Eden in a way that still applies to all humanity today.

According to Genesis 3, Adam and Eve’s very first encounter with nakedness resulted because of sin. They were guilty of disobedience to God’s expressed will for their lives. Their nakedness pointed to their guilt of sin. They had joined a group of sinners: Satan and the fallen angels. Their clothing signified it. And they were ashamed.

But before this, “A beautiful soft light, the light of God, enshrouded the holy pair. This robe of light was a symbol of their spiritual garments of heavenly innocence. Had they remained true to God it would ever have continued to enshroud them. But when sin entered, they severed their connection with God, and the light that had encircled them departed. Naked and ashamed, they tried to supply the place of the heavenly garments by sewing together fig leaves for a covering.” {COL 310.4}

But the aprons that they made, according to the Genesis 3 account, were inadequate. The aprons only partially covered and partially exposed the guilty pair. God had to sufficiently cover their nakedness with coats. Aprons versus coats: “There is a principle,” says Pastor Flemons. Nakedness still shows the guilt of sin.

[For additional details, please read Genesis 2:25; Genesis 3:7-11Revelation 3:17, 18; and Christ’s Object Lessons, by Ellen G. White, COL 310. Also, listen to the recording to hear the commentary of Pastor Flemons, who sang Hymn 298, “I Lay My Sins on Jesus.”]

Worship: For Health’s Sake  Shelem Flemons, a doctor of biblical wellness, continued his talk on being “dressed to kill” in a very real sense. Yes. You can be dressed to actually kill yourself. When you wear too-tight clothing, you risk getting pelvic diseases, he says. For women, this can mean fibroids, which are not deadly. But it can also lead to ovarian and uterine issues, including cancer. For men, this can mean prostate cancer.

Too-tight clothing prevents tissue fluids from flowing in or out of those areas as they normally would. Toxins are therefore contained, and fresh oxygenated blood is hindered. The results can be deadly.

If your clothing leaves an imprint on your skin, it is too tight. Clothing suspended from the shoulders are healthier than heavy clothing held to the body at the waist. Suspenders are better than belts.

“Loosen it up,” says Pastor Flemons. “Don’t wear it tight!”

Leviticus 10:1  And Nadab and Abihu, the sons of Aaron, took either of them his censer, and put fire therein, and put incense thereon, and offered strange fire before the Lord, which he commanded them not. (Also read Conflict and Courage for April 4, CC 100.)

Worship: The Church at Smyrna / Wellness: Why You Shouldn’t Sleep Right After a Meal

Worship: For Heaven’s Sake  “Prosperity multiplies a mass of professors. Adversity purges them out of the church.” {4T 89.2} Smyrna, one of the seven churches addressed in Revelation, is one of only two of the seven that received no condemnation, says Pastor Flemons. That is because adversity, rather than purge them out of the church, revealed their genuine love for God. “Great numbers sealed their testimony with their blood. Noble and slave, rich and poor, learned and ignorant, were alike slain without mercy.”  GC88 39.2

“They were condemned as rebels against the empire, as foes of religion, and pests to society. Great numbers were thrown to wild beasts or burned alive in the amphitheaters. Some were crucified; others were covered with the skins of wild animals, and thrust into the arena to be torn by dogs. Their punishment was often made the chief entertainment at public fetes. Vast multitudes assembled to enjoy the sight, and greeted their dying agonies with laughter and applause.”  GC88 40.1

“Under the fiercest persecution, these witnesses for Jesus kept their faith unsullied. Though deprived of every comfort, shut away from the light of the sun, making their home in the dark but friendly bosom of the earth, they uttered no complaint. With words of faith, patience, and hope, they encouraged one another to endure privation and distress. The loss of every earthly blessing could not force them to renounce their belief in Christ. Trials and persecution were but steps bringing them nearer their rest and their reward.  GC88 41.1

Jesus had these words for Smyrna: “I know thy works, and tribulation, and poverty, (but thou art rich) and I know the blasphemy of them which say they are Jews, and are not, but are the synagogue of Satan. Fear none of those things which thou shalt suffer: behold, the devil shall cast some of you into prison, that ye may be tried; and ye shall have tribulation ten days: be thou faithful unto death, and I will give thee a crown of life.”

[For additional details, please read  Revelation 2:8-11; and read “Persecution in the First Centuries,” The Great Controversy 1888. Also, listen to the recording to hear the commentary of Pastor Flemons and hear him recite and sing Hymn 606, “Once to Every Man and Nation.”]

Worship: For Health’s Sake  Shelem Flemons, a doctor of biblical wellness, says you really don’t want to go to bed with undigested food on your stomach. When you wake up and feel as though a truck has run over you, it’s because your digestive system has been working and not resting all those hours you were sleeping.

The process of digestion requires energy. In fact, you naturally become drowsy after eating, because blood is drained from the brain to help with digestion. Therefore, “A light stroll is one of the best things you can do for your health,” after a meal, says Pastor Flemons. The stroll helps to equalize blood circulation to the brain.

Your final meal before bedtime must be completed five hours prior. Or it must be very light, like a fruit smoothie, so that digestion can be completed fairly quickly: say, within a couple of hours.

John 3:36  He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life. (Also read Conflict and Courage, CC 71.)

Worship: Order in the Camp / Wellness: Bad Eating Habits

Worship: For Heaven’s Sake  Even if by nature you are not an organized person like Pastor Flemons confesses that he is, you may still bring your life into order, he says. You don’t have to allow depression to continue, because of the disorder of your space or time. For the Bible says that we should do all things “decently and in order.” (Read 1 Corinthians 14:40.)

Consider how God set things in order for the Israelites as soon as they left Egypt. There was a specific order of the tribes of Israelites around the sanctuary. It was for their training and discipline.

“Even before they left Egypt a temporary organization had been effected, and the people were arranged in companies, under appointed leaders. At Sinai the arrangements for organization were completed. The order so strikingly displayed in all the works of God was manifest in the Hebrew economy. God was the center of authority and government. Moses, as His representative, was to administer the laws in His name. Then came the council of seventy, then the priests and the princes, under these ‘captains over thousands, and captains over hundreds, and captains over fifties, and captains over tens’ (Numbers 11:16, 17; Deuteronomy 1:15), and, lastly, officers appointed for special duties. The camp was arranged in exact order, the tabernacle, the abiding place of God, in the midst, and around it the tents of the priests and the Levites. Outside of these each tribe encamped beside its own standard.” {Ed 37.4}

To bring your personal life into order, Pastor Flemons presented SPACE, a 5-point principle of organization. First, the S: Separate everything into piles. Don’t throw anything away yet. Just simply separate everything. This way you get to see what you really have, he says. That alone brings a sense of peace into your life. Do the same thing with time management. Simply write down what you need to do. Then group them. The P is for purge what is not needed. Do this also with time management. Some things don’t deserve your time. The A is for assigning things, as God assigned an exact place for everything in the sanctuary and every tribe camped around the sanctuary. Things in your home must have an assigned place, as things to do must have an assigned block of time. The C is for containing what has been assigned to a space or time period. Finally, the E: You must periodically evaluate your space and / or your schedule. Determine whether it is working out as is or whether you need to improve it in some way.

[For additional details, please read Education, Ed 37, as well as “The Camp at Sinai” in Path to the Throne of God, by Sarah Elizabeth Peck. (PTG 196 original. PTG 266 latest edition. PTG 148 online.)  Also, listen to the recording to hear the commentary of Pastor Flemons, who sang Hymn 240, “Fairest Lord Jesus.”]

Worship: For Health’s Sake  Shelem Flemons, a doctor of biblical wellness, listed a few bad eating habits and their dangers. He says bad eating habits include overeating, eating between meals, drinking with meals, chewing gum and eating candy.

Overeating produces toxins and acids in the body that lead to gas. Your stomach can hold more than what it can handle. Therefore, don’t eat until you feel bloated.

Eating between meals prevents your digestive system from resting. It will cause constipation, indigestion, acid reflux, and flatulence, which is gas. It is best to leave five resting hours between meals. Smoothies are the exception.

Drinking with meals causes the digestive juices to be watered down so that proper digestion of the meal is impaired. Indigestion and gas are the result.

Chewing gum and eating candy between meals cause the digestive juices to be excreted for digestion. But because there is no food to be digested, only acids are left in the stomach and then the blood becomes acidic. These habits also force the system continue to work, rather than to rest as needed. If you want to chew gum or eat candy, it is best done nearest mealtime.

Worship: Manna and Aaron’s Rod / Wellness: Frankincense and Cancer

Worship: For Heaven’s Sake  God always takes care of His people. That is evident in how God cared for the children of Israel during their journey through the desert wilderness after their miraculous release from Egypt. God Himself fed them, raining manna down from Heaven every day, except the seventh day–Sabbath. One day prior to Sabbath, called the Preparation Day, manna was rained down in a double portion for both Friday and Saturday. That story in Exodus 16 shows the “perpetuity of Sabbath,” says Pastor Flemons. And it removes “from all minds any groundless speculations by future generations as to how the vast multitude of Israel were fed during their forty years’ wandering in the wilderness, where no other food of any kind and no water (except from the rock) could be obtained. Num. 20:5.” (PTG)

The story of Aaron’s rod that budded, in Numbers 16, shows the authority of God, which He gives to His chosen against those in rebellion, as was Korah, Dathan, and Abiram. It is also representative of parental authority or any leadership role, especially the leadership of Christ.

“It seems that both the pot of manna and Aaron’s rod were kept in the ark during the forty years’ wandering of Israel. But when the ark was put into Solomon’s temple at the time of the dedication of the temple, nearly 500 years later, we are told that ‘there was nothing in the ark save the two tables of stone, which Moses put there at Horeb, when. . .the children of Israel. . .came out of the land of Egypt.” 1 Kings 8:9. (PTG)

[For additional details, please read Exodus 16 and Numbers 16, as well as “The Pot of Manna and Aaron’s Rod” in Path to the Throne of God, by Sarah Elizabeth Peck. (PTG 166 original. Wellness: For Health’s Sake  Shelem Flemons, a doctor of biblical wellness, shared a MedicalNewsToday.com article, which provides data for the potential use of frankincense for cancer. Primarily, it states that frankincense fights inflammation, “always a factor in cancer,” says Pastor Flemons. Also, there is evidence that frankincense kills breast cancer cells, disrupts the growth of future cancer cells, and has antitumor properties, while it is harmless to healthy cells.

In its powder form, it is called Boswellia, says Pastor Flemons, and can be taken in capsule form. Of course, Frankincense oil has an aroma that, when added to bath soaks, is relaxing to the nerves and produces restful sleep. It also can be used in lotions for skin care. In fact, according to the MedicalNewsToday article, it may help with other diseases as well, including rheumatoid arthritis, Crohn’s disease, bronchial asthma, and ulcerative colitis.

A DrAxe.com article was specific about ingesting the oil. “Add one to two drops of oil to eight ounces of water or to a tablespoon of honey for GI relief. If you’re going to ingest it orally, make sure it’s 100 percent pure oil; do not ingest fragrance or perfume oils.” Among other benefits, the article adds, “Due to its antiseptic properties, frankincense oil is a great addition to any oral hygiene regimen. . . . It can help prevent dental health issues like tooth decay, bad breath, cavities or oral infections. You can also consider making your own toothpaste by mixing frankincense oil with baking soda.”

(For more details, please listen to the recording.)

Before becoming Christians, are heathens and nonChristians considered sons of God? Is perfection possible, or will we be sinning until the day we die or until Jesus comes? Can frankincense be ingested? What is boswellia?

Words of Encouragement

Isaiah 59:19  So shall they fear the name of the LORD from the west, and his glory from the rising of the sun. When the enemy shall come in like a flood, the Spirit of the LORD shall lift up a standard against him.

Psalm 40:1, 2  I waited patiently for the LORD; and he inclined unto me, and heard my cry. He brought me up also out of an horrible pit, out of the miry clay, and set my feet upon a rock, and established my goings. (Also read ST October 8, 1896, par. 6.)
